I could be wrong but there's something over there that just breeds mediocrity. I see them being something like ole piss and moo state typically are like.
The style of offense that A&M runs does not lend itself to a great defense. Now, I understand they are trying to change that somewhat. While we all grew tired of limited pressure from the DL and the whole 3rd and chavis and end of half/game issues, I do think he will be a big upgrade for A&M. Hell, if they could have what LSU has had, even with the issues, I think they would be very happy.

Chavis did us a huge favor leaving when he did. He gave LSU plenty of time to hire coaching replacements before National Signing Day, February 4, 2015.
If he had waited until February 1 to resign in order to avoid the $400,000 buyout, LSU would not have had any defensive leadership in place on signing day and several of our top defensive commits would have gone elsewhere!
It may be worth it to forgive the $400,000 buyout in return for his leaving early.

Alleva got wind, tried to force by sending letter prior to Dec 31. Move on, no buy out in site.
. I agree. Alleva sent a letter before Chavis resigned demanding $400K... when Chavis didn't owe anything. That sounds like a hostile environment to me.
Read the article again.
This pic was on Jan. 1, 2015.
"Chavis...submitted a resignation letter to LSU on Jan. 5, four days after he landed in College Station, Texas, with A&M coach Kevin Sumlin."
"On Jan. 2, Alleva sent a letter to Chavis requesting the coach pay a $400,000 buyout."
Sounds like Alleva is looking out for the financial interests of LSU.

LSU has Shaq recruit for us
Idk, didn't shaq talk to Simmons after he signed his papers? Meaning at that point Simmons is already an LSU player.

TAMU needed a DC to reassure their recruits. Sumlin had to get chief on board publicly ASAP. No court will be fooled by delaying the announcement when, I suspect, dozens of recruits and their families were told he was the new DC at A&M. Nothing the fat man did was above board or honorable: who leaves in the middle of the night without telling his players or saying goodbye?
Whatever he did was for himself and no consideration was given to LSU or, for that matter, A&M. He's a douche.

The supposed logic of these types of statements the last month or so continue to appear, but is rather baseless. Nothing precludes a team from recruiting great defensive players and pairing great D with any form of offense. LSU played ball control with limited scoring and it didn't help the D win games. Bama threw the ball a lot in 2014 and had a good D, and the O won them a lot of games. If Oregon actually recruited better defenders and had some quality depth they might have had a chance vs OSU. It is what you want to see.

I appreciate what Chavis did for LSU while he was the DC. Now that he is gone, and more importantly to me, the way he left, adios Chief. I won't pull for him to have a decent defense at A&M or wish him luck while he's there. Chavis, Sumlin and Texas A&M can all go jump in the Gulf of Mexico for all I care.

In the context of your entire post, I agree that the timing of his departure could have been worse (closer to signing day); however, the manner in which he departed leaves me wanting LSU to hold his feet to the fire on the buyout.

I say just leave it be. Much like refusing to grant a transfer request to a player, LSU's reputation can only be hurt by demanding the buy-out money. LSU should be seen as a place where coaches come from far and wide to be a part of not as a bitter, jilted lover. If Chavis doesn't want to be a part of LSU, then good-bye and good luck. Time to move on and look ahead to better things.

So for your analogy you're saying it would reflect poorly on LSU if they didn't grant a transfer request for a player to transfer to an in-conference and in-division school?

So you think LSU shouldn't make him live up to the agreed upon terms in his contract? If we owed him $4 million on the same contract, do you think he would "let it be"?
What exactly do you think a contract is for? WE have lived up to every cent and word in his contract, he should be held to the same standard. There is a reason those words were put into the contract and it was part of the bargaining and protection for LSU.
He did what he did with aTm without respect for LSU and his team.
He should be held to the terms of the contract he signed and was substantially paid on, period.

Cool, np. Maybe you could cover the missing $400,000? Make the check out to Athletic Department, Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College.
