the vast majority of people arguing against this ban don't smoke.
It really has nothing to do with smoking and everything to do with free choice. I choose not to visit places that allow smoking. That is not for the government to do for me. I also realize that NOPD already has enough to worry about right now without having to chase down grandpa smoking in a bar while drinking a beer.

I'm sorry, I thought this was America.
It is America and non-smokers who make up approximately 80% of the Louisiana population have a right to breath smoke-free air.

I'm sure it's been discussed already, but how is it that N.O. is one of the last great cities to pass this? I'm kind of ashamed that it took this long.

Hi everybody, I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada. I found this link at the international Tobacco Control website last night:
LINK
There are many other links that will make your blood curl as well.
I also read an article recently that said that the World Bank has determined that production, sales etc of tobacco worldwide is not in the best interest of human society and should be gradually eliminated by any means necessary. There is your top rung on the antismoking lobby ladder.

Arggghhhh!!! Why must you people make my blood boil!
You are not obligated to go to establishments that allow smoking. Why is this so hard to understand? Nobody is blowing smoke in your face in the privacy of your own home. But if you want to be a guest at someone else's business, they make the rules.

That reminds me of a Saturday Night Live sketch from the 70s when the guy said 'Baseball bin very very good to me'.

No, they really don't. There are innumerable things business owners are not allowed to do by law. I would list a few but I know that you know it's true.
How this issue became transmogrified into THE LAST STAND FOR AMERICAN FREEDOM is simply hilarious to me.
Hooray for preventing Joe Trashy from giving everyone around him bronchitis and lung cancer. Welcome to the modern age, Louisiana.

Perfectly articulated.
I think the "how" is a new creature called the millennial libertarian. They live at home, are well educated but don't know to make money or get women. This gives them copious amounts of time to think about perceived grievances.

I'm generally libertarian with regards to drug use but given that smoking is the stupidest drug addiction of them all, I have very little sympathy for it.
I don't think it should be banned outright or anything

Then you are not a Libertarian. End of story.

So, you like the smell of napalm better than tobacco smoke?

Of course not, just don't foul the air the rest of us have to breathe.

don't use legislation to change the rules for your personal benefit.

How about you change your behavior instead of me? Since its your behavior causing the issue.

There's only an issue for people who want bars to conform to their preferences.
