Anyone heard of getting a ticket for unattended running car

Friend of mine stopped at a car dealership to check out a truck. Dealership was closed, so he just pulled in (right outside gate, but off the main road), left his car running and went and looked at the vehicle for about a minute.
Officer pulled over and wrote him a ticket for "unattended running vehicle."

I'd appeal the shite out of that.

where I lived you can be ticketed for that but the vehicle has to be on a public street

nope, but I am not an expert in all of Louisiana's laws

I'm guessing cops are exempt from this law since they leave their cruisers running even on lunch breaks.

sounds like the cop was following him or just happened to be right there.
reminds me of harold and kumar jaywalking and the cop showing up out of nowhere

And police are just dumbfounded as to why the public hates them. Meanwhile, two blocks away, they are selling crack on every corner and people walking around with 40s with no shirts and their arse showing.
I guarantee you this is his first month on the force.

CO has a "puffer" law making it illegal on public streets.

the purpose of that law where I'm at is supposedly to cut down on auto theft, there is a problem with people starting there cars in the morning to warm them up and going back inside then having the car stolen

So you give the victims a ticket instead of staking out the car and waiting for a perp? Seems police worthy

hey! I don't write the laws another thing that our local cops will do is if they see your garage door open late at night, they'll knock on your door and ask you to close it

Yeah. I heard of that once. Basically what happened was, he stopped at a car dealership to check out a truck. Dealership was closed, so he just pulled in (right outside gate, but off the main road), left his car running and went and looked at the vehicle for about a minute.

In Texas it's illegal to crank your car in your driveway to warm it up and go back inside.(defrost etc)
Same concept - unattended car

"Running" doesn't exempt you from the law. That's a popular misconception. "Running" does not constitute "attended". Unattended is unattended.

Weird. I use my remote start every day. Who knew I was breaking the law so much

Ban remote starts and sue car companies.
