Nope, no one has.

Pretty good. Book is way better.

After watching the preview, I was so pumped that I read the book. Then I heard it was underwhelming. Never ended up seeing the movie.

Reading the book now...damn good.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. Stupid head.

Thought the movie was pretty disappointing. Some of my friends who didn't read the book loved it.
I'm not usually one who is hypercritical in movie vs. book comparisons, but it just didn't work well for me. Things that got 30 pages in the book got one line of dialogue in the movie without any real context. To be honest, I felt like you almost needed to have read the book to pick up on some of the scenes that were too brief to have the meaning they were supposed to have.

My assessment:
Book is one of the best books I have ever read and tells one of the best stories ever told.
The movie: Not as good as the book, but they should be looked at independently. The movie is good, very good. However, I think it could have been MUCH better. That's really the best way I can describe it is that while the movie is still really good, I think if another director had been behind it it could have been even better. Plus it left out some really interesting things from the book, particularly that he met Adolf Hitler at the Olympics in Germany. That is not in the movie and would have been a really easy thing to include, in my opinion.
I would say if you have not read the book, do that first, and then see the movie. Both are good in their own right, but the book is better as a book than the movie is as a movie, if that make any sense.

Damn. That does suck. I loved the whole beginning of the book. Some people say it starts slow, but I really like his running stuff.

Pretty good. Book is way better.

The movie was solid but underwhelming. I didnt read the book so I could imagine it would have been that much worse for me, somewhat like Lone Survivor was.

I read the book and came away very disappointed in the movie.
I went with people who haven't read the book and they loved it though.
The movie just never really developed the characters and made you have an emotional connection with them like the book does. To me the movie just felt very rushed and left out a ton of stuff.
Like someone else on this board once said, it would have been so much better as an HBO mini series.

I've read the book and i've seen the movie. I enjoyed them both but I was very disappointed in the casting of The Bird. As I was reading I was picturing a bad arse drill Sargent type psychopath. Instead we get a gay, teenager looking pop star.

I didn't read the book and I thought the movie was good, but not great. I would have liked to see an HBO mini series out of it as well. I will try and read the book soon to see what all i missed.

Unfortunately, that is often the case.
I cannot think of any movie that I thought told a story better than the book did.
Movies are more visual and entertaining, but due to time limits (except maybe mini-series) there just isn't enough time.

I haven't seen the movie but when viewing the trailer, that was my impression as well. One look at the actor cast as Watanabe and I'm thinking, 'not even close'...not from the impression I got from reading the book. But I still may go see the movie.
