Inga managed the Blimpie Base store when it was on West State Street a few doors down from Murphy's Bar in the 1980's. This was before Blimpie's became a national franchise. She is Korean and her Korean spice marinated steak sandwich was one of the best poboys in town. When Blimpies closed, she opened her own shop on Chimes Street, and her steak sandwich is still almost as good as when she was on W State Street.

Damn, I now have a craving for the steak sandwich from Inga's. Does anyone know how they marinate that stuff? That was my go to hangover sandwich back in the day.

AM gets my vote but not by a mile. The sandwiches are similar. Ingas has better meat and more toppings (not that many more though) but AM is so cheap.

Is this an Inga's vs. AM Mart thread now? Because AM Mart might be the most overrated thing in Baton Rouge.

On what basis is it "the most overrated "?

I enjoy Inga's more, but you can't beat the price of AM Mart for the amount you get. pretty common hangover go-to

It was a franchise back then. My father used to take me to that Blimpies in the mid 70's since he was from Pennsylvania and that was the closest he could get to a hoagie.

That said I haven't had her steak sandwich but rest assured it will happen soon.

I miss Ingas even though the Brightside location makes you smell like a sandwich when you leave.

AM Mart puts too much mayo on their sandwiches .

I eat am mart several times a week because you can't beat the price for the combo and I'm a college student so I love cheap shite.

So a 7" fresh made sub and a 16 ounce bottle of water for under $6.00 isn't cheap?

When you put it like that....

I guess when I think about "cheap" I think about the $5 foot long. Yours sounds more like a good value.

People do everything short of ejaculating all over the place when AM Mart comes up.

I already don't like the place much, but the dramatic praise for it makes me dislike it even more. If it was seldom talked about, I might not feel the same way.

I've said before, I'll admit my bias comes from not being a big fan of buying those types of sandwiches out to begin with because packaged/processed meat, boring bread, and lettuce/tomato is so inexpensive in the grocery store.

What's a combo at AM Mart after tax? $6-$7? There are too many daily deals around BR where I can get burgers, pizza, calzones, etc. for that price to waste it on a cold cut sandwich from a gas station.

In no point of my life thusfar has a cold or "toasted" sandwich been hangover food. GIVE ME THE GREASE. Or pho!

I'm with Milo on this one. Bang for your buck wins out. Either way it's not gonna blow your mind, but AM Mart gets the value pick.

It's $5.99 before tax.

Is $6.50 really miraculous for a cold cut sandwich combo? I guess I just don't see the value there. And don't eat enough sandwiches.

With this logic, you can do like my friend and walk two buildings down to Hungry Howies or Little Caesar's and have an entire pizza for $5.

A nasty pizza and a quick sandwich fill very different "dining" niches for most people, I would think.

Maybe so. But when asked why the love for AM Mart, price is often the defending reason.. as evidenced in this thread. Not quality of ingredients.

All I know is I need to ask to one-armed man at the Tiger Mart on Lee if I can sell sandwiches with some packaged meat from WalMart for $6.50 at his store.

I'm the opposite. I cheer for the underdog. This board makes me want to go to all the places that get hammered.

If you think AM Mart gets hammered, you are not paying enough attention Believe me, my opinion isn't the common one.
