He didn't complete the act of the catch. It's a pretty cut and dry rule. The ground caused the ball to pop free and he re caught it. At the point it hit the ground and went airborne it was not a catch.

That's how I feel, but people don't care. They know a catch when they see one and it's hard to disagree
