Went on a (Carnival) cruise a couple years ago. Looking at the age and condition of some of the passengers, there's no way several of them didn't die on the voyage. It was like a nursing home on a boat.
That's fine, old people don't bother me. Lots and lots of children will though which I was worried about.

They keep the children occupied on cruise ships with their own activities. You rarely see them outisde of boarding and departing the ship, unless you go to their area, or you bring some with you.

I would visit cruisecritic.com and hit up their message boards. They will have a board with threads abotu your specific cruise line and port, etc. They seem to have lots of people with good advice on that site.

I did something similar, and there are a ton of shuttles from fl to Miami. My wife and I actually preferred fl to Miami, we took a duck tour of the intercoastal and it was really cool.

We went out of Miami on Royal Caribbean back in 2010. We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental. It was pretty sweet. We just took a cab to the cruise port.

I could be.

That is reassuring. Our flight lands around 3pm so I'm thinking it's probably better to just stay in FL and the next day take the shuttle in to the pier.

Recently flew into FLL for a cruise. NO shuttles to the ne arby port, only a pre-paid transfer via Cruise line. BEST option is to cab it so you can pit stop at a local liquor store for a few bottles to bring aboard. NO liquor avail at the airport !!
