Chavis grade while at LSU

I give the guy a B+. His defense managed to get better and better with each set of players every year. Knock on him throughout his LSU coaching career is he could never close out games. The Ala. game past 2 times in Baton Rouge are classic examples. We'll miss him but hopefully find another coordinator with a bit more aggressive approach. I like the blitz package on key downs and rarely did we see that work effectively in Chavis' last few season. Anyone else have a take?

A. Most consistent unit while he was here.

B+ sounds good. 3rd and Chavis is a cloud over the actual good job that Chavis did. 3rd and Chavis came about for a reason though. Also, last minute drives.

On a bell curve a B. Real grade more like a C. Seems like the great D's he had were mainly because of the talent he was given. Average job done with the LBs and DL considering the talent he had to work with. Teams who had less talent rated higher in takeaways and tackle for losses.

Anyone who gives him lower than a B is just butt hurt

B- we gave up way to many leads.

I don't know about his grade, but he sure looks like the butcher in the Geico commercial with Ickey Woods.

I'm not willing to bump him up to an A. We did have a great run we also were stacked with nfl talent.

B because to many last minute blown leads

first 3 years he was very good; last 3 years he coasted, imo. he did have DL problems and maybe that wasn't his fault. as a DC tho, I think he should be held accoumtable for recruiting the kids on defense. we missed on some guys. sure, our real good players left after their junior year but that should be anticipated. the DL is in short supply and one of the most critical positions on the field.

1st 3 quarters = A
4th quarter = F
4th quarter = F

Solid B. He always had good defenses but he was good for a few losses a year.
Pair with a decent offense it could be an A
Pair with a decent offense it could be an A

How about a year by year grade.

F. He blew every game that would have vaulted us into the national tittle race.

SOLID post! I think everyone on this board would agree. I also liked the post about given a better offense he could have gotten A+/A- marks. We'll see how he does at AtM (BTW: There is a reason for their nickname). We'll see what he does in 2015 - especially when he comes to Baton Rouge to face our #1 ranked LSU Tigers to end the season!!!!!
