Jennings is limited, forced throws, and made mistakes against NMSU. Harris had a total meltdown against Auburn and didn't give himself or the team any reasonable chance to compete.
Six one way, half a dozen the other.

Then you should watch Jennings highlights from the New Mexico game

What makes you think he won't open the QB competition? Just saying...IMO, I agreed with every QB decision Miles has made so far. And, I'd bet I'm not the only one. History proved miles right on Jefferson/lee. Arguably, the only decision that can be questioned would be to start Russell over Flynn, but even that seems silly to question.

Would have been great if he had been given the chance to improve. The early games were a great opportunity but instead he gets thrown out against Auburn, at Auburn, for his first start and then expected to be good. The proof was Miles saying he would play him each week after that and then never doing it. We will never know, but judging by the JJ/Lee debacle it seems a fair assessment in saying Miles pulled the kid too fast and went with mediocre/steady, feels like more of his comfort zone.

I saw a QB that was a little hyped up and was leaving the pocket too early. Sometimes he stared down his reads, but he also got away and made some nice (and some poor) throws. That one late across the middle was brutal, and he got Quinn killed.
He looked like a freshman with a leaky offensive line starting his first game in an insanely hostile environment.

It also didn't help that the defense didn't exactly help him out there.

He threw everything extremely high not even giving the WRs a chance, and not mentioned was fumbling two snaps and going the wrong way on a handoff. All three of those plays were on 2nd or 3rd and short that killed drives.
ETA: He just totally lost his mind that night. Hopefully it is out of his system.

Well he did start Lee for essentially the entire 2008 season and then started Jefferson in 09....
Hell he also started harris against Auburn
I get that people are disappointed he didnt play late in the season I am too. I think he knows though that what we have done is not going to get us where we need to be.
They also seem to forget that he swapped Lee and JJ in and out all through 2010.

Let's make one thing perfectly clear---there is nothing good that came out off Harris not getting more playing time-nothing. Trying to screw with his head in some way, does not improve anything and it in no way prepares him to do what he needs to do like DOING it does. This shite is ridiculous.
Actually, what he got out of it was a humbling experience. First against Auburn, and then by not playing the rest of the year. Look, did I think he should have played more during the year, hell yeah. Thing is he did learn just how much harder he had to work. Cam obviously didn't want him out there.
We'll never know the exact reason why, so just get over it and get ready to see him win the job in the spring.

It is clear that he was not prepared for that kind of environment. Making your first career start as a true freshman at Auburn against a team that was on a 12 game home winning streak. I do not fault him for playing poorly that game.

Nearly everyone worked AU's defense, even a certain true freshman QB. Even a run heavy Wisconsin worked that D (even though they didn't pass much).
The best we could do is 7 pts.
Let that sink in.

Miles has already said QB position is open.

I understand what you're saying. But that Auburn game for A&M wasn't Allen's first career start. Different situation. Had Harris been starting all year, we probably would have lost to Wisconsin but the offense the rest of the year would have been much better.

quote:I really wish that last year's spring game was on the internet somewhere. Virtually every play he dropped back, then stepped up in the pocket. Honestly reminded of Brees. It is the reason I am more confident in him to be a great QB for us next year than most people.. Everything he did at Auburn can be attributed to nerves. High passes, scrambling unnecessarily, dropped snaps. He was clearly nervous and I don't blame the kid. That being said if you name him the starter in the spring, let him go into the summer knowing he's a starter, get all the first team reps in the fall, play your first game as a starter against a cupcake, play your second game on the road against a dedeclined MSU defense in an average environment. He will be extremely confident after that and will be 100x the QB we all saw against Auburn. Book it.
If BH can learn how to step up in the pocket

he was nervous and made a lot of mistakes and still put up a touchdown.
something jennings couldn't do in the same game.
and yet jennings played the rest of the year and harris threw the ball one other time in garbage time.
this year was the worst QB mismanaged year since 2004

harris led them to 7.
jennings led the team to:
0 against auburn
0 again against arkansas.
7 (12 running plays on that one drive) and a fg against ole miss
7 and 2 fg's against alabama
let that sink in

I look at it and wonder why the hell he didn't play more vs Sam Houston and ULM
Posted on 1/3/15 at 4:44 am to okietiger13
Line played bad and play calling was awful yet again. Not enough easy completions for him and our receivers look slow getting into their routes. I have no confidence in Miles or Cameron calling plays.
