I think plenty of coaches would have gotten a lot more production out of AJ.
I will say this.
It's sort of football 101 that if you are scared shitless of your QB throwing the ball then the last thing you want is for him to ONLY be throwing on 3rd and long.
Most coaches stuck with a shaky QB tend to find some high percentage passes they can throw on 1st down to steal 3-5 yards. Basically, glorified running plays(hint, ND started off with that against us!!!). This helps keep the defense from putting 8-9 in the box. It ain't perfect but you wont get perfect with AJ at QB.
If the ONLY time you throw with a shaky QB is when the whole world knows he has to throw, that ain't going to make him LESS shaky. Also, by doing that, you effectively make every throw high pressure. It's like the difference between being at the plate in baseball with no outs and no strikes vs being at the plate with two outs, two on and the count is 1 ball two strikes. We basically have our QBs in the latter situation a LOT!
They are 18-22! Pressure doesn't HELP a shaky QB!
All of this. All of it.

let me be clear
i'm not saying cam has to run a top shelf offense, but we need major improvement in our passing game
something along the lines of 55% completion rate, 8+ ypa, 2500-2750 yards, and around a 2:1 TD/INT

mnevilsCameron Needs To Produce Or ElseI don't see the return for the 1.3M this guy makes. He needs to produce or hit the bricks
1st to have production you must have production workers (Players) seems we may need production players . Who want to win ,

Do you think anyone could have gotten anything out of AJ?
I bet dozens of coaches could have made him adequate. Look at Nick Marshall, Blake Sims, and Dak.
None are true QBs, but their coaches have made them light years better than all but one of the 4-stars we've had on roster since Flynn.

AJ, whether it be his QB ability or coaching, or a mix of both should not be playing in the SEC. He's terrible. And Les' good buddy Cam was a horrible OC this past season. That's inexcusable to be that bad.

I agree with the OP. I don't want to hear excuses. $1.3m and the best we can do is 114th in passing.
Pathetic. I don't blame Chavis for being pissed that he was getting the same money as Cam.

Don't give Cam a pass because AJ is inept. He got HIS QB in harris. It's all on Cam if BH doesn't develop. His job to make him work and light a fire under his arse. I think his job needs to rest on spring QB development. If harris can't grab the reigns in the spring/fall, and AJ continues to be an inept starter, we'll have a new staff in December.

I don't either. Remember Chavis went through this with Fulmer and experienced the melt down - the 3rd and Chavis, the wheels coming off, etc. . Imagine him experiencing Mile's post game cryptic speeches, his promises for creative new offensive schemes, Cam Cameron's woeful offensive staleness and seeing the whole vista of college football offenses changing yet sensing that nothing is and will change at LSU. And then someone offers him a raise of $350,000. Yea, I don't blame him either.
