I don't know. But even if so, they don't bear the cost- hence the question of why this is a "trade-off" at all- and it is not appropriate that the choice would be theirs. The customers and the business owners will pay the price.

this article is beyond dumb and this guy understands nothing about how an economy works or how wealth is generated
but I'll play along for a second...
what does this article say about the hypocrisy of warren buffett considering his involvement in the deal?

If the Salon piece author could take advantage of a tax loophole to avoid paying 15-20% of his/her personal taxes, would he/she do it?
I thought so.
Pandering to the masses using class envy. Sells ad space and makes short-sighted folks think they are doing some good in the world.

That ship sailed long ago. Most lower income people are conditioned to accept govt. assistance without losing any dignity.

That’s $360 a week—just under $19,000 a year before taxes. I need food stamps and Medicaid to support my two kids.
So it's his/her employer's fault he/she had 2 kids that he/she can't support?
I truly believe that even the slightest amount of self responsibility doesnt exist anymore for low income liberals.

I already said THAT is what it's "about" (according to Burger King). You use the italicization and quotation marks as if there is something we disagree about -- if you want to try to create some frivolous argument so that you can feel "right," forget about it. The thought of quibbling with you about this to try to get you to acknowledge my actual position seems like a frickING "miserable" way to spend an evening.

No I don't. You're full of shite.
Overall, it seems like a good move from a financial perspective. I never said otherwise. Now, I'd like to see BK fail through consumers making better choices from a health perspective, but that's a different issue.

Well, you were wrong about me earlier (Which, by the way, I really didn't appreciate. I mostly grew up on the "lower end of the economic scale" -- I'm not going to get into a bio, but it's just foolish to say that when you don't have any good information to base it on.), and I think you're wrong about most of the people you're talking about.

LOL. Yeah like the 90 percent of us have to be so concerned about the tax rates of the top 10 percent.

They have enough money and influence in this country to keep their tax rates from getting too high.
Start googling the amount of income that would put a person in the top 10% of income earners. When you find that out start searching for how much influence they have.
You might be surprised to find out that they have about as much influence in the political system as you do, ONE VOTE!

The only way the BK tax inversion whining gains any traction is if tax inversion drove the deal. It clearly did not. There are valid reasons for BK to HQ in Canada. There are none for BK to HQ here.

Hey Yo.
Liberals.
The problem isn't Burker King's morality. If the government offered me the opportunity to legally save a ton of money in taxes - I would take it. So would you. Don't fricking lie.
The problem is the system of laws that don't provide disincentive to leave. A good start might be to tax all the capital gains and dividends a U.S. investor makes on foreign held companies as ordinary income. Although the corporation would continue to enjoy savings on paper, its investors would be disincentivized in their own finances as a result.
Also - OP should quit Burger King and go work for an American owned fast food joint if its so important to him.

Drop the shite. I didn't "whine" about tax inversion. I've said multiple times that this move is about growth (to clarify, that's what I was referring to when I said we didn't disagree -- you were talking about a more specific aspect of growth -- I think just saying growth works better for brevity and applying to the different aspects involved) according to BK. I was the first one in the thread to say that. And again, there are plenty of posters clearly saying that this is mostly a tax dodge -- there's your legitimate argument -- have it with them. Please tell me you understand this.
And have some fricking respect. Don't tell me I'm "whining" about something when I'm not. That's insulting. Don't try to tell me what my position is, and then tell me what I need to argue to defend a position you've made up for me. I'm truly baffled at how often this happens on this board. What's the point? I can't imagine having the gall to tell someone what their position is, then stay steadfast on the bullshite in the face of refutation! There are plenty of real things going on. I don't want to spend time arguing against your straw man!

I didn't "whine"
quote:Obviously there are plenty of nitwits whining about the supposed BK Tax Inversion. Like the OP they are not business savvy. They know little or nothing of Tim Horton's. They haven't a clue as to why US HQ would make little sense to the new entity, aside from any tax consequences.
And again, there are plenty of posters clearly saying that this is mostly a tax dodge -- there's your legitimate argument
My perception was you thought the BK merger was done for tax inversion purposes. Could have sworn you'd said that. Perhaps I misread though.

Kind of like a tariff protecting American companies from international competition for American investors. Would not support.

Solid assessment. Wanna hear some more generalizations that are likely more accurate? I agree with you spidey that the solution is to incentivize companies to stay. Our solutions are drastically different. Yours requires an increase in taxation. Mine requires a decrease. Just a small example of how we come to solutions from opposite fundamental beliefs. You believe all money is the governments...and they allow us to keep some. I dont
