I think it's a crappy movie and have never gotten why it gets so much praise.

It's a ton of fun. Go for it.

Swear to god... I've fliped it on for a few seconds in years past but I haven't seen more than five minutes of it total... And to be honest, the parts I did see didn't really entertain.
I just never made time to watch it from start to finish.

I have watched it every year since I was 11 or 12. I am now 37.
Watch it.
Watch it.

I would say to watch it, mainly because it's such a classic.
But prepare to be underwhelmed.

I'll do like I do every year and watch it once on Christmas Eve and then turn it on and watch it repeatedly all day on Christmas while I get absolutely snockered. The movie gets better the drunker you get and then when the 24 hour marathon is up you get that sick, sad feeling because you realize Christmas is over and you're all drunk and emotional.

Thats the key IMO
The ones who truly love it are the ones who grew up on it.

Watched this on vhs when it first came out in 1984. I have watched it for 30 years straight. I never miss the marathon. Such a classic nostalgic yet non corny Christmas movie. It really is about childhood more than anything. I will never get tired of watching this film.

This right here. Im offshore for work right now so i bought the dvd and loaded it on my tablet so i can watch it before bed.
If you've never seen it, you won't enjoy it nearly as much as those of us who have never had a christmas without it
