Located in Thibodaux this little local brewery is finally open.
I went Saturday and they only had 3 beers on tap, King Cake Ale (minus sugar rim) Cafe Au Lait, and the Intercoastal IPA. This weekend the Pelican Pilsner should be ready.
The place itself is very nice and open, wood tables, fire place, very comfortable chairs. Pints are 5.00 each and I would not recommend a flight since those are 6oz pours but each one is 4.00.
You are allowed to bring beer to share as well. Overall the beer was good but nothing really stood out, the Cafe Au Lait was really weak on the back end but had a nice coffee nose, the King Cake you got the cinnamon up front but nothing else, the Intercoastal is an English IPA he said and was the best of the bunch imo.
I did not ask about growler fills fwiw

So was it unbalanced towards the malt side? Both English style IPAs I've tried were more malty.

It was a little malty compared to many IPA's I've had recently. People i went with couldn't drink it because they said it was "hoppy" which I didn't find. It is drinkable but not eye popping. I will be back since this was the first weekend open and they had some issues with tap lines and what not.

Better get a prettier bar maid, STAT

No but I live closer to Mudbugs now than I do Chimes, Pelican House, Cove, so I will be going a decent amount I guess

IMO, this was a mistake. Gimmicky beers just won't take off in the craft beer world as a new brewery. Especially one that is reliant on sugar flavors. I say that as i remember cane break. Which was good the first time i had it, and it was when i was somewhat new into craft beer. Nowadays i tend to stay away from it. Too malty for me. But, that's just my personal preferences of beer. So maybe i'm wrong, but my opinions of a king cake beer scream "big mistake" in my head.
In my honest opinion, if you are starting a brewery, make incredible classic styles. Make a great IPA, a great stout, a great saison. Once you are established, then try your "flavored" stuff. Just my 2 cents.
But, i do hope they succeed. More breweries can only be a good thing for louisiana.

How was the Cafe Au Lait? Sounds good. Don't they serve a crab boil beer as well?

I've had it before, and it was much better than I expected. Honestly, I think it will be a hit here in south Louisiana. It's not something that I will gravitate toward, but plenty of people will.
I remember liking his Cajun stout as well, but I don't know when he'll be making that. Haven't tried any of the others.

True but what craft beer world do they have in Thiodeaux ? None. They need beer that will be gimmicky and appeal to the masses.

Mavens make up an extremely small number of beer drinkers in the area. I spend enough time in probably the busiest tap room in the state and I can tell you the flavored style beers are the best sellers.

The Cajun Stout will be a seasonable beer he said on Saturday.....
The Cafe Au Lait had a great upfront coffee smell/flavor to it but it was really thin

I agree with you. I've worked a little in the Houma/Thibodaux area and it most certainly is a BMC and Crown & Coke area. You just need something to "hook" the crowd in (such as the King Cake ale) and then introduce and educate them to IPA, Saison, and such.
Best of luck to them...it's nice to have another brewery in the state.

King Cake and Cafe Au Lait the guy admitted he was having issues with the tap and the King Cake was over carbonated he said. They got their permit on Friday so everything was rushed really, on Friday they opened for 2 hours and only announced via Facebook, Saturday they were open 6-10pm and then they opened Sunday for the game.

I agree. The king cake ale will bring in the bmc folks.

Sucks they are doing an English IPA.

The Au Lait has a chance to be their best beer if it was fuller with a stronger coffee presence.
