2015 playoff changes? (calls saints out by name)

When Seattle was 7-9, it was a feel good story for them. I really don't get how if the saints do something, the rules have to change. Changed how overtime works, now people are wanting to change how the playoffs work?

You can blame the New Orleans Saints, if you want, but the NFL is looking to make changes to the way the playoff teams are decided. The reason you can blame the Saints (or the Atlanta Falcons), by the way, is because they’re currently slated to make it into the postseason with a less than impressive 6-8 record — which says more about the dismal NFC South than anything else — which really hurts fans of teams like the San Diego Chargers or the Kansas City Chiefs, who are both above .500 but look to be on the outside of the hunt for the Lombardi trophy when all is said and done.
No one likes this. Well, that’s not exactly true (we’re sure that Saints and Falcons fans are thrilled), but it does speak against the innate idea of fairness that most fans take to be gospel when it comes to sports.

I think we all knew this was coming.

San Diego made the playoffs a few years back at 8-8 and won their first playoff game.

This is stupid. What if the Saints (or another NFC South winner) would win the superbowl this year? Would they "not deserve" it? bullshite.

I love it. It's fun being the bad guys.

If the 7-9 Saints win the Super Bowl I guarantee here will be plenty of people saying the don't deserve to be called the World Champions.

And I can guarantee the amount of fricks I give will be zero

This will be idiotic if true. Let's change the system for something that's happened three times in the history of the NFL. And Saints fans have every right to have that opinion considering what happened in 2010.
You win your division you get a home playoff game. Simple as that. Why the frick is that a problem all of a sudden?

I don't remaember there being any of this hoopla when Seattle made it in 2011?

2004 STL 8-8
2006 NYG 8-8
2008 SD 8-8
2010 SEA 7-9
2011 DEN 8-8
2013 GB 8-7-1
The Saints are still looking at the possibility of going 8-8, 8-7-1 or 7-9, but now it is a problem that must be addressed...
2011 Denver had Tim freaking Tebow on it...that team was going NOWHERE!!
This same situation already played out in 2010...the Saints were the 11-5 team then.

2011 DEN 8-8

Not to mention are in the other conference.

I agree - I remember the Rams / Seahawks game being flexed to NBC Sunday Night Football and it being hailed as "two up and coming teams" fighting for a well-earned home playoff game and a new beginning.
Makes no fricking sense how they got all this love and us (relatively recent SB champs with far more star power - ditto for Atlanta in the star power respect, too) get shat on constantly.

A lot of those teams won playoff games.

This is not an anti-Saints thing. People were ticked Seattle got in at 7-9, but everyone thought this was a once in lifetime thing.
So the second time something may have to be done.

I said then, and I'll still say it now, that I don't really have a problem with division winners being given playoff spots. However, they shouldn't be given an automatic top 4 seed and a home game. They should seed it 1-6 based on records of the playoff teams. If the Saints (or the 2011 Seahawks or whoever) win their division at 7-9, cool, they're in the playoffs. But they're the #6 seed.

I'm with you. I also think this board has overrated the national outrage over the Saints potentially hosting a playoff game.
Posted on 12/20/14 at 2:57 pm to Louie T
Yea I haven't seen much outrage. Actually I've seen broadcasters talk with excitement about playoff game in the dome and how scary that'll be for whoever we potentially play.

Hope this happens. Want these idiots to shut up and stop changing what already works.

Chances are the writer isn't aware of how the NFL playoffs work to begin with. He could have used NFC teams that are above .500
