Michelle Obama gives this as an example of her past "racist experiences."

quote:

Michelle Obama: I Was Asked to Take Something Off a Shelf at Target

The Obamas talked with People magazine about dealing with their "own racist experiences," as the magazine described.

Michelle Obama told one story that recently took place, even as she was first lady of the United States.

"I tell this story – I mean, even as the first lady – during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn't see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn't anything new," Michelle Obama, who is 5'11", said.

I don't see how they can even infer anything about the American public from the incident as this Target was in Germany.

Is she saying the person was racist for asking for help?

A lady at work this morning asked me to get some coffee creamer down from the top shelf because she couldn't reach it.

Traumatizing, I tell ya. I feel so abused.

It's a weirdly clinical level of narcissism, mixed with Marxist assumptions about Class and Race reinforced daily by every single person around them.

If you told the same story, somebody near you would tell you "SNAP THE frick OUT OF IT" and tell you the 147 things that had happened to them. But because they exist in "The Affirmation Cocoon" (*uh oh sounds racist) they are never challenged.

Again, this is a REAL tragedy and missed opportunity for our country. And one we won't get back. It's a damn shame.

How is this even relevant to this race-baiting article? M.O. even admits "she saw me as someone who could help her"- how the hell is that racist? I guess she's implying that black people are always helping, i.e. "serving", the white folk.

And like this story is even real. Like the lady that asked her for help didn't see the secret service and multiple cameras following the first lady around. Anyone that reads People Magazine should be sterilized.

I was in Wal Mart a few weeks back. There was no 1/2-1/2 visable on the bottom shelf of the cooler. I got on my knees and reached to the back of the cooler and retrieved a couple. I'm 72, but I have long arms, like a black man. While I was down, another elderly man asked me if I would get him a quart. So I did.

Now I'm wondering if he saw me as an old person, thought that I was black, or thought that I was a midget.

<- wears the wrong color polo to Academy all the time - gets asked for help with lots of sporting goods issues.

I dream of the day where a person is not judged by how tall they are or what color shirt they're wearing, but by the content of their character. (With all due apologies to Dr. King, RIP.)

So now its racist to ask for help getting things off of a shelf? Well thats great, I can drop my white guilt since I myself have experienced such petulant racism many times.

ETA: If SNL had any balls left, this would make for a great skit.

I'm a 5'11" white man, and I have ladies ask me all the time to help them get something off the top shelf at stores. Does that make them sexist? Or am I a hightist?

I'm confused.

What's missing in this daily installment of this board's Faux Outrage Du Jour is the context, and that's usually the case. If the Interviewer prefaces a question with the statement that they've been criticized by some in the black community for not standing up against racism and for being out of touch with the black community and your answer is examples of I've been there done that, it's not like they were getting up on stage and whining. In fact what's not being cut and pasted presents a different light on the interview (I know shocking):

Things have gotten better, both Obamas agreed, but there's still more progress to be made.

"The small irritations or indignities that we experience are nothing compared to what a previous generation experienced," President Obama said. "It's one thing for me to be mistaken for a waiter at a gala. It's another thing for my son to be mistaken for a robber and to be handcuffed, or worse, if he happens to be walking down the street and is dressed the way teenagers dress."

Is she really 5-11? That means in heels she is about 6-2. She doesn't look that tall.

Exactly. Happens to everyone, Michelle, not just black people. Sheesh.

So ... was MO gracious about it, getting the item down for the lady, as most people have done, or did she did she stick her nose in the air and say such common "helping others" practices were beneath her station?
