how about you go buy yourself a $600 rifle and go hunting
how about you go buy yourself a $150 fishing pole and go fishing
its not the talk that builds the relationships but the time spent during these activities.
you can't just talk about golf and be best buds, you actually have to go golfing, get drunk and screw a whore to become best buds.

Just tell them you caught a bunch of speckled bass and largemouth trout this weekend in the marsh and you will be good to go.

Just in case this is not a troll, I will honestly respond.
As a group outdoorsmen typically have heart felt disdain for thieves, tresspassers, liars, and posers. They also typically have excitement, encouragement, and opportunities to learn for the inexperienced and honestly interested.
Decide where you are and how you want to be percieved.

Tell them your remington 1187 is a far superior shotgun than any benelli that they may shoot.

I really have no problem with other people hunting and fishing. I just don't want to do it myself, due to previously mentioned reasons. I am not a vegetarian.
Thanks for the honest responses I have gotten on here. I will start sprinkling them in during casual work convo.

If you're actually serious, the first thing you need to do is take a Hunter's Safety course. You will learn A LOT in one day.
And from your colleagues' perspectives, they will be a lot more at ease if they know you are going to be safe. There's nothing worse than being in a big group and having "that guy" that doesn't handle firearms properly. Don't be that guy.

Tell them you duck hunt with your 416 Rigby and bass fish with your Penn 80W. They'll really be impressed with your knowledge of fine hunting and fishing gear.
Good luck.
Good luck.

It's going to be tough to have real conversations or make real friendships just talking unless you are actually in the game.
At least get a rod and reel and take up catch and release on some fish local to your area. I have never released a fish that was edible and legal, but to each his own. Penn Feirce 6.5' rod with a 2000 series Penn reel will cover a lot of territory.
Even if you don't want to harm rabbits, deer ducks, etc.; certainly you can find enough hatred in your heart to hunt a damn hog. Everybody hates them and killing one or two will get you enough street cred with the hunters at the water cooler. Wild pigs are natural organic meat, bro. Get a used 30-30 Marlin lever action and tell them you are old school.
Don't even try bullshitting them; they will know.

Tell them you fish for pintail fish. You hunt for lions, tigers, and bears in north Baton Rouge.

So... you don't hunt and never have. You don't want to hunt, but just want to talk about it to fit in with your colleagues.
I know people who don't hunt but are still interested in shooting, start with that. If that doesn't interest you, just watch the outdoor channel and talk about the shows...
Most hunters don't believe half of the stories actual hunters tell much less someone who doesn't know the "lingo" your going to sound like an idiot. Kinda like when a hot girl says she knows football, then says something like "#9 always throws a fumble" but it probably won't go as well if you're not a hot girl.

Say baw and wear a yeti hat. Tell them you cook in a Duck Commander can cooker. Let them know that 870s are just as good as Benellis.

YGBSM!
Really?
Dude...just man up..and either learn to hunt/fish...or just tell people you don't. Lying to co-workers to impress is very juvenile.

You're getting the cart wayyy ahead of the horse, hoss. You got to look the part if you want them to take you seriously. First you got to grow a big arse beard. Start wearing fluorescent fishing shirts and always have carry around an empty bottle to spit your dip in. Good luck on your endeavor.
