Steroid scandal and MLB strike killed any interest I may have left over. Of course pussy was discovered soon after as well

I still have a couple of Air Jordan shoe boxes full of baseball cards still in plastic sleeves somewhere. I think the last time I looked my most expensive card was either a Mattingly rookie card or a triple threat rookie card that had Biggio, Bagwell, and Gonzo on it.

20 years ago I could have gotten rid of that card for a couple hundred bucks.

Now? $15.

The new generation of kids who have grown up with technology and want everything to be interactive is what killed the industry.

My dad's card collection from the 50s and 60s was thrown out by my bitch Grandmother. When I grew up, he made sure that the cards I collected were protected and taken care of. I thought I would make some bucks with my card collection but that probably won't happen. I will say that game programs are probably a good investment. I have game programs from about 20 Super Bowls and a few World Series.

So all those Jeff Kunkle cards I've been hoarding won't provide for my retirement?

I had several unopened boxes of '89 Upper Deck, a bunch of different Tony Gwynn and Kirby Puckett rookie cards, older Topps sets, etc. The best single card I had was a Ryan/Koosman rookie card that I got for less than $100 before Ryan threw his last no hitter.

All of it got stolen during a burglary of my apartment in the early '90s. I had a good inventory and my best friend was my insurance agent so I got reimbursed several thousand dollars no questions asked. Best thing that could have happened.

My uncle had a card shop in Slidell and made bank off of Pokemon. He'd be hustling deals with 10 year old kids all day.

Yep, ended the false sense of scarcity in cards just as it did many other things.

I think the first year of Upper Deck was 1989.

I still have a few cards. My prized card was my Jose Canseco Donruss Elite. It was going for $300+ at one point. I think you can find them for less than $5 now.

Anyone remember the tools Desert Shield cards? They were the same as the Topps cards from that year, but had a good stamp and were sent overseas for the military. The ones that made I back here were got back then. I still have the Jose Canseco of that one.

1987 Benito Santiago with a Jheri curl taking off his catchers mask is the baseball card GOAT.
