It's one thing if I decide to get my wife a present- which I probably would. But if a woman is ASKING for an iPad or jewelry...come on.

Frickity frick this. I had to put up with her hormonal arse for 9 months, and pick up all of her house duties that she could no longer do. Not to mention, she is pretty much down and out for a few days after so it's you solo with the kiddo.

The baby daddy should get a gift for damn sure.

Nobody said the wife should ask for it. Even the OP said it was his aunt that mentioned it.

I wonder if some of these guys get their wife a Christmas gift. If she doesn't deserve something for the pain in the arse that is pregnancy and child birth, why does she deserve something for a random holiday? I bet those greedy broads even ask for a Christmas gift.

A little something isn't a 1500 dollar diamond ring FYI.

While that is much more specific than anything I said, I imagine it is to some people.

I'd never heard of such a thing until my wife got pregnant. Like most here, I thought was a ridiculous idea. Then I thought about it. We give people presents every year for simply turning one year older, or because the calendar says December 25th. What have they really done to "deserve" a gift other than just happening to be alive on those particular days? To the contrary, what could be more deserving of a gift than carrying my child for 9 months and then painfully forcing them out of a small space. I would never be mistaken as being very compassionate towards others, but being with a pregnant woman for 9 months AND being in the delivery room at "go time" makes you appreciate not having to go through that.

If you can swing it, get your wife a gift (jewelry is always a good idea) . This is one time that believe me, she's earned it.

Yes. It cost me $150 for jewelry with birthstone.

Wife's happy, friends are happy, family is happy.

I just decided $150 was an easy win. I can find a better way to "make a stand" against stupid purchases.

The money is not a big deal. The social pressure component is.

our wife would never have come up with this BS absent friends/family climbing in her ear about it.

You don't really understand what a "gift" is, do you?

It's pretty hard to survive these days. With police officers assassinating innocent people in the streets.

No doubt.

My wife didn't ask for it nor would she be upset if she didn't get anything.

It was a nice/easy gesture and she enjoyed showing it off if somebody asked if she got one and now she enjoys wearing it on occasion.
