It took 15 weeks for our staff to run the read-option.

They finally decided to let our spread QB run the offense he was used to and the kid looked like a pretty good QB. Hopefully they're finally seeing that a fundamental change is needed if you're going to keep recruiting spread QBs.

In all fairness, this was the pathetic Aggy defense we're talking about here. It wouldn't work as well against a real defense.

Not saying we shouldn't have been running it more all season, but the reason it was so effective yesterday is bc AM is terrible and wasn't expecting it. In the second half they started to adjust and the play slowed down considerably. Jennings is a mediocre to poor runner and he only makes the right read like half the time.

How do you know? Spreading the field and getting 9 out of the box would've helped a lot this year. Jennings obviously knows how to read the ends properly.

We didn't even try it against anyone else

In the 2nd half we only ran it 3 or 4 times and they all went for good yardage.

It's tough to run. It generally takes high school offenses at least a week to master.

Why wait this long to tailor the offense to what Jennings is good at?

Sophistication is what you get with a $4 million + head coach and his buddy the OC at $1 million.
So complex that the true freshman cannot understand it all.

My man, Jennings has run this before. Just go back and look at past games. The other schools shut his arse down when he attempted to run. Only aTm let him break loose like this. Dude isn't much of a runner.

I remember one play in the red zone specifically in the second half they ran it and the D end stayed home and Jennings kept it anyway and got like one yard. One of the reasons we didn't run it more is bc that's what usually happened. Despite popular belief, we have run the play before. But one game against a just terrible AM defense, really cannot be stressed enough, hardly means Jennings is ready to be Nick Marshall out there

We have been running the read option all year. Try to pay attention.

FYI, we have run it all season. i just worked well last night.
I think the jet sweep was the wrinkle that made it effective.

I was glad to see a lot more plays in shotgun. Cam finally earned his paycheck this week.

We've had success on this play before. A number of our big second half runs against Wisconsin were read option plays. Hilliard's long TD run to give us the lead was a read option play. It's just that Jennings handed it off instead of keeping it (the play makes the D think). Harris' 46-yard TD against NM St. was off of it as well. That was our longest run of the year until last night when Fournette tied it.
The bottom line is that he ran well last night and had some good fakes. aTm's D is poor, but they held Prescott, Marshall and Wallace to low ypc averages and under 100 yards.

With how effective we can be running the ball inside, we should have been running the read-option all season. I also really liked the jet sweeps. We can't really pass, that's a given. The thing about the read-option and the jet sweep is they forces the D to respect us laterally. Against Ar-Kansas they were crashing inside almost every play. Once the D has to respect the outside run, huge holes open up inside. If we could just force teams to play us honest, we could run inside at will. This is just basic stuff. It's really disappointing it took this long to finally start running this way.

We haven't run it near that much since probably the season opener against Wisconsin (when it worked well too).

Glad to see you man. I heard that it took the suicide squad 4 hours to talk you off the ledge after the LSU win.
