Official WINK HUB Home Automation thread

OK it's time. I just installed the app and it looks like GE and Quirky have their act together and are fixing the horrible launch and cloud issues. This still seems to be the horse to hitch your smart home wagon to if they can work out the kinks and disastrous initial PR.
So far it's nice to see my 2 thermostats in the app.. Actually haven't bought the hub yet so it's nice to be able to add things to the android app just by creating an account.
Fwiw I have 2 inexpensive Honeywell wifi stats and wink actually just gets to the Honeywell api by granting it permissions. Advantage is the nicer UI to control it, everything in one app and the robots you can configure (ie macros) to link the behavior of the stats to other events like proximity turning lights on when you are close to your house and changing stat temps.
You can get a hub and 2 ge WiFi lights for $49 in store at home depot right now.
Or you can go to wink.com and get a free wink hub if you buy any wink device and spend over $75.
That's a good deal say if you're looking at a WiFi garage door opener to get the hub for free.

Just installed my Hub last night. It was a pain to get the thing connected though.
Now that I'm finally connected, I cannot get my touchscreen lock to pair. When I try to add it through the app, the app tries to get me to reinstall the hub. (it won't give me a next button to proceed with pairing) Pairing the lock alone does not get it connected as I assume the hub has to be pairing at the same time.
I'll give Wink a call today and put their customer service to the test.

I have a 17 year old disabled son and am at the point where I need to automate thermostat, garage door, front door, bedroom door, lights and a ceiling fan. I just saw this thread and am begining a DIY project and figured this WeMo by Belkin would be the way to go. I believe I saw this hub that controls 24Vdc. Figured I could add some solenoids to an arm and open and close the doors.
Just a thought. any websites or additional resources would be awesome.

What do you have in the way of light switches? That seems like a better option than the bulbs, but I want something that will work manually or through the app and stay synced.

Bumping this thread since it hasn’t been updated much since the Wink snafu, but there’s some helpful info in here, so thanks to all who have contributed….
Out of necessity I am looking for a home automation hub. I’d like to have a smartlock, thermostat and camera put in my condo in FL to reduce the need for a management company. I can pay about $1000 to an alarms.com installer to get what I need, but then there’s a monthly fee which makes it no-go. It looks like Wink and Smartthings are the top players if you don’t want to pay that service fee & I’ve read about as many positive reviews as negatives on both. It seems the technology in general isn’t fully baked yet. Do you any of you have any advice on which way to go (if any)? I am all Apple if that makes a difference.
TIA

Alright, I bit. Just ordered the Wink hub, (4) GE A19 lights, 2 Kidde fire & co detectors, and the Honeywell touchscreen thermostat.

Is WINK compatible with other wireless devices and home tech, or is there a big element of brand lock in? Id hate to go down the wrong path if these things aren't at least somewhat interchangeable.
Id like to start off with a few light switches, but Im not sure if its worth having to buy the hub and all the other gear, vs. finding something that piggy backs on to my wifi network.

Looking for a little technical assistance… I bought a new Leviton smart switch to work with my Wink hub. The problem is all the wiring on the old switch is black and nothing is labeled. I’m no electrician and have no clue how match up the old switch wiring with the new switch. Do we have any know-how on the board who can offer up some guidance? Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions for security cameras that work with Wink? I know there is the dropcam, looking for other (and cheaper) options

Did any of your home depot deal catchers get a deal on a smart plug or surge protector?

Hey guys,
Looking for a little help/advice. I have a few wemo devices, but am fairly new to the smart home game. I'm finally looking to take the plunge and get a hub since I have a few use cases lined up for things to automate.
Questions:
1) When you get a smart outlet...Are the two outlets controlled independently or together? Or does it depend on the unit you buy? I have some lamps I'd like to automate and would rather buy smart outlets than bulbs, but I don't want the other stuff plugged into the outlet to turn on/off with the lamp control. Make sense? What's my best option in this case?
2) Related to my lamp question...Whoever decided where to put light switches in my house was either A) an a-hole and purposely put them in terrible locations; or B) a moron. Regardless, I'm looking to control my outlets from question 1 above with a battery operated toggle switch that I can mount on a wall without running wires.
LINK
This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't really want to go with the Lowe's system. I plan to buy either a wink hub or a ST hub (don't shoot me). Do any of you guys have a solution to this problem? I haven't been able to find another switch like this that advertises it's wink/ST compatible.

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to the "hub-life" of IoT. I've had a few wifi devices for years, but recently bought a smartthings hub and some zwave switches and controllers. (I know, wrong thread )
Anyway, I was hoping to get some ideas from the community here on more use cases. So far I've aimed at solving a few frustrations around the house. (Turning off all lamps in a lamp-filled living room with one button push, putting light switches in places that they SHOULD be, knowing if my garage door is shut while sitting in bed)
Now I'm looking to expand to solve problems I didn't know I had.
I think my next purchase will be putting a multi-sensor in my freezers to alert me if the door isn't closed or if the temp drops.
What are some of your current/planned use cases for your smart gear that go beyond thermostat control and turning on and off lights?

Is anyone using a separate router to control their home automation (Wink and related items)? If so, how difficult is this?

Thinking of adding
August Smart Lock Pro + Connect, 3rd gen technology
To my wink set up and the external keypad accessory. Anyone currently using these? Also do I need the connect if I already have a wink hub?
