Doesn't mean he can't be batshit crazy. In fact, that seems to go hand in hand with many of these super successful genius types.

Sam Waterson was right!!
I'm glad I invested my money in Old Glory Robot Insurance!!

Yea. I know who he is. Still think he's off base about I robot becoming a true story.

Yeah but we may start fricking them in as little as 2 years.

I mean it's not that outlandish. This guy knows more about technology than any person on this board, so to disregard his comments as crazy is pretty dumb I'd say. Maybe 5 years is pushing it, but I don't see why anyone thinks why a robot killing a human is some crazy science fiction. Advanced ai will definitely be seen in our lifetimes, and nothing runs perfectly.
Pretty much this!

I don't see it as that crazy. We already have drones that are flown by humans, but its not crazy to think someone is working on an algorithm that could fly better than a human and scan for targets just as accurately. Military already uses robotic mules to carry supplies. I could see a robot being made to drop into hot zones before putting soldiers on the ground. First killing robots will probably make a lot of sense when they are created.

Coming from Elon Musk, this is a little concerning...
It sounds crazy on the surface, but the most attractive weapon to the military is the one that will kill the enemy without the possibility of casualties to said military.
If you can make that weapon, you will be rich beyond your dreams. This is big business (military industrial complex).

The most advances robotics ever developed will soon be used for..........
Sex and Killing.
:Shocker:
As much as humans evolve, the base instincts remain unchanged.

Yep. Elon Musk clearly knows more about technology than anyone on this board. It doesn't mean he's right about everything.
Steve Jobs was a technological genius. He also thought he could cure his cancer on a diet of fruit juice. Is anybody going to play the "I think Steve Jobs knows a little bit more than you" card on that?
I would love anybody to show me the path that gets us to true autonomous artificial intelligence in five years, much less Skynet Junior.
On the other hand, if the premise is that some drone malfunctions and drops some bombs on the wrong target, yeah I can see that, even though I still think the odds are small and that it certainly wouldn't be a regular occurrence.

It's happened before, and it will all happen again.

Agreed. It's ducking dumb.

I, for one, am ok with this. I have a moderately long list of those that that I think could/should do with out life. Should this robot revolt come to fruition, it would help to free up some of my time.

In fairness, this may more of a business than a scientific discussion on his part.
The WOW! factor of a Tesla is going to take a hit when Google finally perfects their self-driving cars.

All you have to do is plug in the three laws of robotics, and that should take care of it for now. Think it would be a smart thing to implement just in case.
But regardless, robots won't have the capabilities to replicate or upgrade themselves certainly not within the next 20 years, to where they'll keep us around solely for that. They won't be killing us that soon.
