Period.

Clifton Garrett

quote:

Garrett, a former five star prospect from Illinois, has played in two games - against New Mexico State and Louisiana-Monroe. LSU could file for a waiver to get Garrett a medical redshirt for this season. Players who have played in less than 30 percent of a team’s games and were injured in the first half of the season are eligible for medical redshirts.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure special teams doesn't burn your redshirt.
He only played in 2 games during the first half of the season, and he did not play 30% of the season...redshirt not burned.

Does it matter? If the guy is any good he wont be here longer than 3-4 years anyway.

Loston played two games his freshman year and received a medical redshirt after the season. Is Garrett suiting up for games anymore? If not, might be bc they're holding him out bc of an injury, real or not.

And now we know why the nebulous "respiratory " issues aren't being further explained.

I have been asking for two months if this was a serious respiratory issue like HAE PID Or ALPHA1 antitrypsin Etc.

Granted, I asked the rant, but I wanted to gert he rants temperature on why beckwith doesn't have a backup that can ably spell him or come in post-injury.

The response is that we had linebackers leave due to academics, team rule vios etc.

But furthermore, the issue is talent acquisition.......if it's not that,
then it's talent eval.......if it's not that
then it's keeping your players in class and out of trouble.......if it's not that
then it's talent development.......if it's not that
then it's plain ole bad luck.....and I am so tired of hearing about bad luck.

Not dense at all. A retired executive that has made decisions all my life. Don't read everything too literal. I really am interested in how the career of a major recruit will unfold. It is aggravating that every discussion has to degenerate into smart arse commentary.

The possibility exists that the OP is mistaken about having seen Garrett play in a game. I suspect reporters generally know the redshirt rules. If the reporter knew that Garrett had already played, then I doubt he would have asked the question about redshirting in the first place. Nevertheless, some of our posters would rather posit that Miles simply does not know who has and who has not played.

Here's the rule...

quote:

Each student-athlete is eligible for four years of competition in each of their chosen sports. If a qualified incoming student-athlete is "redshirted" his or her freshman year (i.e., practices but does not compete), four full years of eligibility still remain. An extra year of eligibility can also be granted via a "hardship waiver" if a student-athlete suffers an incapacitating injury or illness in the course of a season. The injury must occur during the first half of the season and the student-athlete, in Divisions I and II, must not have participated in more than two contests or 20% of the school's completed contests, whichever is greater. In Division III, the threshhold is three contests or 33% of completed contests, whichever is greater.

Any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particularcompetition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition

And I know some people think Garrett will be eligible to receive an injury redshirt and people say he had a concussion in fall camp... He might be able to get it but it depends on when he got it... if he got it in camp, like someone said, and then played in the season weeks after, I doubt he will be able to receive a medical redshirt.

I mean you can't left him play in 2 games, then say oh well he had a concussion a few weeks before the season started so he's gonna be medically redshirted, even though he still played after he got if. Think about it... You can't say he was hurt and should be medically redshirted for something that happened in fall camp and he still played in the regular season. Doubt the NCAA grants him the medical RS for that.

All depends on the injury and when it occurred.

He said you were dense because you actually hint at Miles not knowing if a player has played. Really? Les never gives things away. We knew faulk had a season ending injury, but Les never once said what the injury was. After 10 years I think you guys would figure this out. So some of you so called fans haven't been paying much attention.

The guy has played in 2 games. He will get a medical hardship. We have them all the time.

They could easily say he got one in the new Mexico game, or in practice.

And honestly the talk has been about respiratory problems, not a concussion.
