McConnell: If Rand Paul runs for president, 'he'll be able to count on me' .

McConnell also is intrigued by Paul's plans for 2016, when Kentucky's junior senator faces re-election to his Senate seat while potentially running for president.
It's a safe bet that Paul won't be the only member of McConnell's GOP caucus who considers trying for a move to the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Does that require a tricky balance?
"(It's) not tricky at all," McConnell said. "Obviously, I'm a big supporter of Rand Paul. We've developed a very tight relationship, and I'm for him."
For president?
"Whatever he decides to do," McConnell said. "I don't think he's made a final decision on that. But he'll be able to count on me."

I'll believe it when I see it.

Wants him out of the senate maybe? Can't see this being genuine

Rand has helped McConnell regain his seat and the Senate Majority leadership.

Yeah, they made a deal. It is payback time.

He's just trying to appease him so he won't run for Senate Majority Leader

It's not an endorsement, it's a general statement of support. Rand knows and understands that.
Rand also knows that McConnell was just sending a message to a 3rd party.

Why in the hell would Rand want to commit political suicide by becoming Majority Leader? You have zero chance of becoming president after being in Leadership, it's extremly partisan gamesmanship. No, his eye is on the prize and Kentucky benifits the most so why not leverage one another?

What happens to Rand if he runs and loses? Big risk for him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him wait another 4-8.

In terms of the OP, Paul's alliance with McConnell may be the most savvy political calculation Wash DC has seen in the last couple of years. Both benefit, but it opened up the inside track for Paul in terms of legislative effort, and Paul has a few tee'd up.

Really like rand, love how he has reached out to minorities..when he called out democrats for taking the black vote for granted it made me smile. In the south, blacks have a lot more in common with republicans instead of democrats..

Still, what happens if he runs and loses? Does he risk his Senate spot? Unless Kentucky's House approves a change in the law he can't run for both Senate and President. So, does he risk it?

He just can't run for potus in Kentucky is one way around it.
Paul always stated he wants to go back to medicine after he's done in D.C.
It's now or never and to be quite honest this country doesn't have that much time left.

What's so funny? We're 17 trillion in debt, and part-time job economy is the new America.

You're right. This country has, like, 6 years left. Max.
