Will we ever get term limits on Congress and Senate?

And how do we do it? How do we convince these power hungry pigs to pass it and give up their free bacon wrapped shrimp?
BTW, anyone who is against term limits is living in fantasy land.

Probably not, unless a Constitutional Convention is called, I think the only way for them to get passed would be for the House and Senate to pass a resolution for an amendment (my civics is a little rusty so feel free to correct if wrong). You think abunch of corrupt old farts (on both sides) will vote to end their gravy train?

Why can't this get done if something like 80% of the public is for it?

Term limits is not the panacea people think it is. California has term limits how's that working out? The term limit is called election time and the problem is voters keep re-electing the same clowns.

I hope not. I am against term limits.

Yeah, cause we keep electing great politicians and it's working so well like it is.

Career politicians are just a symptom. You are focusing on the wrong thing.

Even for president?

It would require an article 5 convention (bypass congress). There is currently a move to call one to pass a balanced budget amendment.
On my phone and can't link but Google convention of the states and I think that will take you to the sight.

This right here.
So the idiots of this country want an idiot proof electoral process? Our forefathers are puking in their graves. They gave us a perfect system based on constitutional powers and you want to frick it up. Shame on you.

We do have term limits.
Two years is the term for a member of the house and six for a senator.
Vote em out if you don't like them. If you want to keep them in place, you can do that as well.
I don't think term limits should exist for the President either.

No our founding fathers gave us a pretty damn good system, but the true genius of their system is that you can amend the Constitiution so it can solve the problems in government. Our forfathers were polite enough to step aside when their time was up. George Washington, James Monroe, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson all left after 2 terms, so why can't Mary Landrieu or Tad Cochran for example.

That sounds great except that the elections are rigged in favor of incumbents and controlled by the parties. And then you have the huge advantage incumbents have. Gerrymandering(House elections), the power of the pulpit, and the power of the purse all adds up to give the incumbent an enormous advantage.
Elected officials use their office to run for election starting the day after the election. Their reelection committee is their staff who we as taxpayers pay for.
The Congress and the states saw the danger in letting a president serve more than two terms, and now it's apparent to many that the Congress has become too powerful too. 12 years as a Senator and 10 has a member of the House is plenty.
Let these people serve and come back home to live. We're building a ruling class in DC and its hurting the very fabric of our society.

Such as.........
Why amend the Constitution when not reelecting asshats is the answer. Laziness is not an excuse to amend the Constitution.

We can only hope. Too bad we will never see an amendment to do away with the lifetime appointment of federal judges.

Why? So Congress can be run exclusively by lobbiests while literally zero congressmen have any idea how anything works? If people like voting in those dumbasses over and over again, let them have them. What needs to be reformed is how campaigns are financed and what kinds of regulatory powers the government actually has. A federal government that only embodied the enumerated powers given to it by the Constitution would lack the kind of valuable influence that lobbiests and special interests come to Washington to buy.
If there's no influence to be bought, there's no reason to influence elections.

No. It would have to be passed by members of Congress, and they aren't giving up that gravy train to millions.

All except for the Supreme Court. I also want the AG to be elected and not dependent on the President for his job.

You do it at the voting booth.
Term limits will never happen if you're expecting Congress to do it. The gig is far too lucrative for them to put a limit on their cash grab.

I'm not convinced term limits are the answer. However, the system is not working as designed in the late 1700s. Lots have changed then, and my guess is Washington et al did not envision a permanent political clas, a entire industry of lobbyists, etc. The congress our forefathers created was very much a working man's Congress (even if you define working man as rich plantation owner) i.e. people would go for a few years and then return to running whatever they ran before.
When you have a power structure tilted to those currently in power, money tilted the same waym, and politicians rewarded for "bringing home the bacon", this is what you get.
