Jennings is not perfect, far from it. Jennings is not prolific, not even close. However, Jennings is effective, and Jennings is improving.
Thank God because the 1st quarter of the NMST game was turrible.
Jennings is the best game manager and it is clear that is our best shot at winning games this year. Hopefully, Harris continues to press him in practice because competition is good and lead to both getting better. I still think Harris is out best shot at winning in the future but not this year.

Jennings' biggest problem right now is locking in on one receiver and being a little hesitant on letting the ball go when the receiver breaks open. Both of those can be fixed with experienced. Zoning in on one receiver is amplified in LSU's offense because just about every route is deep and slow developing. The throws themselves however are generally on target. LSU's scheme in the passing game doesn't create a lot of wide open receivers like you see with other teams. It forces the QB to essentially be perfect on every throw.
The second INT was the byproduct of locking in on one WR the entire way, not a weak throw. There was a defender underneath the route. He had to throw the ball with touch. He did. The throw was there. Unfortunately, the DB covering Dupree on the clear-out "go" route read Jennings' eyes and came off that route for the INT.
JMO:
1. LSU is never going to ask him to be a big time QB in the passing game. LSU's offensive approach is consistent power running with the hopes of converting a few big plays in passing game. It's really almost like a triple-option attack.
2. People put waaaay too much stock in arm strength. Accuracy is MUCH more important. BH has a big arm, no question, but in his start against AU he was wildly inaccurate. Everything was a rocket and very few were anywhere close to catchable.
3. Jennings is improving as a pocket passer (something he was not when he came to LSU). You can see that he getting more and more comfortable staying in, and sliding up in the pocket. It's a work in progress, but Harris would be experiencing the same issues. Problem is, I don't think he would be as on-target with his throws as Jennings has.

I'd normally agree with you but those two INTs were bad, and almost cost us the game. The defense bailed him out.

He does the things the coaches ask for as in he doesn't call a different play than what the coaches tell him to run or audible into? I don't understand. He stares his recievers down and he's pretty lucky he didn't get intercepted a few more times this past Saturday, so. Y'all can put on the glasses all y'all want to but he's just not very good. Very indecisive too. Even on options..looks like he makes his read before the ball is even snapped. Anyways, any QB in the country can "get the job done" when your defense plays that way. But even on the toss sweeps he would delay tossing the ball for a second or so because he looked lost as to which side he was suppoed to pitch it to. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I hope he does well, always liked the kid but he just isn't very good.

I cannot agree at all. He is not even a game manager to be honest but he is doing what he can and has to do to help the team win

Brad Kraigthorp and Terrance Magee have higher QB ratings.

Finally, posters who say that Jennings is not an efficient QB have to recognize that Jennings' passer rating for 2014 is still higher than Mett's passer rating for 2013.
Am i missing something here?
Mett's Rating --> 171.4
Jennings's --> 130.8
NFL Passer Rating:
Mett --> 113
Jennings --> 82
Not to mention that volume should make efficiency stats go down
I do agree that he is improving

Why did LSU quit running the 3 WR set after one play? That was a nice completion to Quinn over the middle, and we only saw this once. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconconfused.gif)

It may work for now, but playing down and limiting the QB as a playmaker and field general is not a good long term strategy.

I can't believe this got 28 downvotes.
OP didn't say "Heisman contender", "great", or even "good"
Just effective and improving, which is entirely accurate
Last I checked, it was 3-7 before he threw the pass to Stokes and 9-7 after. I believe that is called effective.

How do you explain the turnovers. Those were awful passes. Got to avoid that. 'Bama has repeatedly stuffed LSU run. That said, the last two contests LSU made crazy mistakes that contributed to 'Bama wins e.g. FB fumbling as he runs to the end zone. Those kinds of errors and LSU will lose...again.

Posters who say that LSU can't win with Jennings as the starter are cearly wrong. LSU has only lost one game with Jennings as the starter.
To be fair, he did nothing in either of out losses.
he also turned the ball over twice against Ole Miss.
We are forgetting his shitty performance because 1) he threw a game winning touchdown 2)we won.
I personally give our pass catchers (i wanted to include the RBs and TEs) a lot of credit for adjusting to balls in the air, and making some difficult catches.
It is a bit frustrating too. There are some passes right on the money, and are well thrown balls, and then he throws some absolute ducks., that just hang in the air forever.
I love this win, and this is the kind of game LSU is gonna have to play to beat good teams this year.

Jennings is Effective and Improving
Before this game he completed 50% of his passes, had 7 tds 4 ints.
This game he completed 50% of his passes, had 1 td and 2 ints.
Don't see how that's effective or improving.
quote:100%?!? Hell I'd settle settle for Harris' 55%.
Jennings does not have to complete 100% of his passes to be effective;
quote:
he merely needs to complete enough passes to keep the defense from stacking the box.
The problem is, he doesn't. And defenses keep doing it. And next week, Saban will do to him what he did to JJ for the NC game.
I hope and pray Jennings steps up but so far, I've only see dying quail Billy Kilmer type passes out of him.

A better way to say it is Jennings is at times effective, and slowly improving. He's learning to maintain his composure after miscues and is gradually gaining confidence in his abilities. He's not getting as rattled as he was early in the season, and at times has executed under extreme pressure. Yes, his passes are inaccurate more often than not, and he still suffers an occasional brainfart, but he's all we have at the moment, and last weekend did enough to beat the #3 team in the country. Let's see if he can achieve that same feat in two weeks.
