Took the plunge and bought a new truck.

I recently changed jobs and am getting a vehicle allowance, but the vehicle has to be less than 5 years old and less than 120,000 miles. I'm a cheap bastard, so I decided I'd buy used since I've got my dealers license and find one at auction.
Well, for a nice late model F150 4x4 Lariat or Platinum with less than 50k miles, even at auction they're bringing $30-40k! frick that!
I picked up a new 2014 F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4, Ecoboost, chrome package, off road package, 20" wheels, leather, backup camera, tailgate step, HID headlights, Sync and free oil changes for life for $36,000. No brainer.

Man that looks good. I wouldn't call you a cheap bastard. I'm looking for trucks under 15k . My high end vehicle was 20k lol.

I'd pull those running boards off.

very nice truck man, sounds like a solid deal.
Gone are the days of getting a 'nice' truck for under 30k.

Nice, I have basically the same truck except it is a 2013. I love it. Nice choice.

Here you go. I'll get you started.

I pulled the running boards off of my XLT. all they were good for was dirtying the back of my pants. they were tucked under the truck too far and i would only slip off of them so i didnt even use them
OP - Nice truck i have a '13 XLT with the 4x4 OR pkg but with the 5.0 but no leather - love the truck. I just added the power folding tow mirrors. MUCH easier when towing my boat so see behind and around me

You know, I don't know a single person with a late model F150 that that has happened to.
And even if it does....Truck cost + repair is still cheaper than a tundra.

I personally know 2 that I work with.
One guy had labor covered under warranty at 110k miles but had to buy the parts... $2500
Other had to bare the full cost at 136k miles. $3800.
And Ford is looking to DOWNSIZE the Ecoboost in the 2015 models????????
Nothing, I mean absolutely NOTHING, makes sense about putting a smaller motor in a bigger truck and making it work harder, no matter how much boosting or super charging you're doing to it.
Unless you upgrade the internal and external parts, they WILL fail under such loads. And Ford is proving this with the timing chain failures.
If it wasn't an issue, then why did ford redesign the parts for the timing chain system?

Went to Sterling with the offer and they had the same truck with all options but with 20's and cloth bucket seats. They threw in aftermarket leather seats (and I got to choose the color from many) and they beat the price by $300. You get free oil changes at any of their dealerships as long as you keep either the license plate bezel on or the "saveatsterling" sticker.
I got all the rebates. Trade allowance, financed with FMC rebate (going to refinance after first payment), and cash back.
Sticker was $47,063, but the truck was advertised at $42,300. With rebates, purchase price was $35,959.

Um...fuel economy. That's why they did it.

Well then boom, problem solved.

I'd pull those running boards off.

Here is the problem with online forums:
They can really outsize issues that aren't really that prevalent.
No doubt they are a valuable resource, but sometimes you have to dig to see if an issue is really an issue.

If there truck were any higher or if i was any shorter, id need the running boards. If i ever put any back on, they would be a black tube style.
when it gets cold enough to have frost or ice, watch your step on the slick plastic. I learned the hard way

Nice truck BTW, except for the black color. You couldn't give me a black truck.
You should have some aftermarket leather put in. Will probably run you about $1000-1200.

Its actually Kodiak Brown. IT looks black at some angles or when it is dirty (like it was in the picture). Its goes great with the adobe interior. For $1000, im happy with my cloth
for the running board, in the online forums, there are guys who have extended them with "brackets" (materials from lowes)
