This is the power of union scum and crony protectionism. Less freedom for all.
Snyder signed a right-to-work bill and is beholden to the Amway Grand Rapids mafia, so I wouldn't put this on the unions.

The commerce clause is one of the most freedom destroying laws we face.

Pretty sure Texas is already like this. I'm looking into getting one now. There's a "showroom" in Austin where they will show you the car and discuss all the features with you but they can't discuss price and can't broker a sale. They just kinda direct you to the website for further info.

How can this pass a constitutional challenge? Does this not restrict interstate trade?
No.
This is all intrastate. MI can do whatever the f' they want within their own borders.
The people of MI can still buy a Tesla, they just have to buy it from another state. Or Tesla has to setup a "traditional" car dealership and meet MI laws.

Can courts overturn this kind of nonsense? It reminds me of the casket debate in Louisiana where the monastery was making nice wooden caskets at a fair price and the dumbass funeral homes were blocking them from selling the things. I think the courts ultimately got involved.

can anyone in michigan actually afford a tesla?
Posted on 10/22/14 at 9:58 am to SirWinston
Yeah, and IIRC the court ruled in favor of the monks.

Federal courts? Probably not. Were any federal laws broken or rights infringed?
State courts? Depends on what the MI laws say and given the fact that the governor just signed into law requiring Tesla to set up a car dealership then the chances seem pretty low that Tesla will get any relief in MI.

This protects dealers and the car companies that compete with Tesla, and no one else.
I expect the governor of Michigan to cave to the major automobile dealers and car companies.
Absurdity.

Yes

A lot of states dictate that wine must be sold in liquor stores, and not grocery stores.
This reminds me of that. You have to wonder how the liquor store owners, or in this case the car companies and dealers that compete with Tesla, have bought influence in these states.
Wasn't there something similar in Texas?
If I'm honest, my experience with automobile dealers is so bad that I'd love to buy a car online.

What do unions have to do with this? The fight is between the dealerships and Tesla. The dealerships want a monopoly on the sale of new cars instead of a free market.

Yeah. Go to a big city and you'll find them.

Entergy is doing it here now, and saying solar costs all us paying customers money.
It does. Entergy profits go down, your costs go up to cover the difference.

I don't see how this could be interpretted as anything other than crony protectionism. It's pathetic.

That's not because of people using solar, that's because of the energy companies being money grubbing arse hats.
