quote:

City officials told Donald Knapp that he and his wife Evelyn, both ordained ministers who run Hitching Post Wedding Chapel, are required to perform such ceremonies or face months in jail and/or thousands of dollars in fines. The city claims its “non-discrimination” ordinance requires the Knapps to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies now that the courts have overridden Idaho’s voter-approved constitutional amendment that affirmed marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

I don't trust the source, but it is just a matter of time before this happens.

Some enterprising individual should start a same sex denomination. Would make a killing on the weddings.

Then, anyone forcing a church to make same sex weddings is doing so just to force the implosion of their faith.

Fascinating times in which we live.

I'm assuming Hitching Post Wedding Chapel is a for profit business.

RFRA the shite out of them. ETA: I know the RFRA doesn't apply to local and state governments.

In all seriousness, though, if these ministers don't like the law of the City they live in, they can move.

Wasn't that the original idea?

My philosophy on this is clear: If you want my church out of your government (and believe me, you do), the government needs to stay out of my church.

There is no way that story is true. Toddy assured us for years that churches and ministers would not be forced to marry homosexuals.

Aren't women supposed to be silent in the churches?

Not that this even is one, but talk about confusing your views.

They should force the Muslims to marry same sex.

We'll see if they keep their heads.

Good if you are running a Wedding Chapel for profit as a public business, dont discriminate.

You want to claim religious freedom, form a church, go non profit, only open for services and then you are a welcome to run your fantasy land as you see fit.

I could not believe this when I read the thread title. Then I saw the source. Now, I really don't believe it.

I'm all for same sex marriage but if they ever force something like this it will not be met kindly, and rightfully so.

Doesn't being a for-profit business have something (or everything) to do with this?

This has always been the endgame for the gays.

None of this is surprising.

Force them to void their religious convictions? Surely this is horrible info and untrue.

*edit*

I can see giving tax breaks to the ones that do, but not fines or jail time to the ones that don't.

This will not survive constitutional challenge. I predict even some of the left-wingers (other than Ginsburg) on the supreme Court would vote against it.
