Move over, Armageddon. You are no longer the world's strongest beer, at a mere 65 percent ABV. That title now belongs to Snake Venom, which has an ABV of 67.5 percent. For comparisons sake, most whiskeys are between 40 and 50 percent ABV. Both of these potent brews are crafted by Brewmeister, a Scottish brewery. The brewery created Snake Venom after fans deemed Armageddon "too weak" when it debuted in 2012. Snake Venom gets its bite thanks to smoked peat malt and both beer yeast and Champagne yeast. The beer comes with a warning label warning prospective drinkers not to over-imbibe. The 275 mL beer is currently retailing for £50 ($81) online.

These gimmick high ABV beers are almost always awful.
This is especially true for anything above around 25% ABV. At this point the brewers are just adding simple sugars and non-beer yeast to the beer boost the ABV.

You don't have to click it. I quoted the text of the article. What is so shitty about a thread on beer?

Strongest I've had too.
And I had the tiniest sip ever.

Seriously? So what makes it "beer" at that point? Because it just isn't distilled?
I remember when Andy Gator was some of the strongest you could get around here. Then a number of us started brewing. A lot of us tried to make the strongest palatable beer we could. Seems silly in hind sight, but without us mavericks, you mavens would be drinking Coors Light.

At work? I saw they were selling a bottle for $100+
I laughed because I had a 2 oz pour (probably less) for free. And nothing about those sips I took made me ever want to order a full bottle.
Basically tasted like brandy

That's where it was. It may have been before I worked there, but still.
I did not like it at all.

Agree that they usually taste pretty bad. Tactical Nuclear Penguin was 31% and Utopias, Blackfist and OMG are all in the mid 20's...

Well whiskey starts out as "beer" so fermentation then distilling is common to both.
I guess because they are marketed as beers, and freeze-distilled instead of boiling?

the Cove had some crazy viking mead I tried last time I was there, I don't remember the abv but it was well ahead of anything commercially available

Should have re-named it Sink the BMoney. Because that's what happened that day.

The highest I have had off the top of my head is The Bruery's Black Tuesday which is 19.5% I believe.
