No hate for welter (well kinda) but I feel like beckwith is a much better MLB than welter. It's not even close. How did the coaching staff not see this? Why did it take 5 or so games for them to realize welter just isn't a good MLB. He wouldn't start on any team in the SEC except Vanderbilt. I'm sure he is a good guy but he does not need to be starting.

Does anyone know if he played any last night? I didn't see him on the field

The only play I saw him make was a hold on a kickoff.

I thought we were better up the gut last night with Beckwith. I thought I saw Welter in there, but it could have been on special teams.

Beckwith is better, but he's going to struggle to be an avg SEC middle linebacker. He's missed on lots of tackles as well.

Got in at LB and lost the angle on Driskel because he's too slow and gave up a 1st down run.

Looked a lot like Welter out there. Maybe it's scheme, but neither plugs the hole and are bad in pursuit.

DT"s played better last night.

Beckwith was far from impressive last night.

Beckwith still needs a lot of work. Slight improvement over Welter.

You are biased. The reason our defense was better was because our front 4 played much better and stayed in lanes. Beckwith couldn't get near the plays in the open field. His strength is supposed to be in stopping the run but he got trucked by the QB on one of Florida's TD's. If that was Welter there would have been 30 threads on it with gif's already.

He's a much better athlete but doesn't appear to really know what he's doing out there. Probably just needs some real playing time to figure it out.

it didn't, it took 5 games for them to have full confidence in Beckwith making the adjustments on a full time basis...

Physically yes, and he should start. He needs a lot of reps and needs to play with a mean streak.

Beckwith was indeed light years better - he looked like and played like an average SEC MLB, which isn't bad as a sophomore.

Welter was in on two series and quickly lost contain, coverage, and went the wrong way once. On kickoff return, he actually stopped in front of LF in open field (note not blocking someone or even touching them - other than blocking LF), he whiffed on coverage, and got a holding call. It is seriously insane he could do that much damage in so little time.

On another note, Chavis seriously has to stop putting the MLB into man on the back, letting the offense motion the back out to clear out the middle, leaving us open for the QB draw. Those plays are on the Chief.

These guys need to trust each other to make plays they are constantly all running to one side then leaves the other wide open for the cut back so offenses are purposely bringing motion to one side and then cut it back to a wide open field.

Actually, I felt like we did much better up the middle with Beckwith at MLB and Adams at Safety. I noticed early in the game the motion man took Beckwith out of the middle in coverage and left the middle open. The run was up the middle and Adams stuffed it about 4yds past the LOS. This play would have made 20+ last week.

I'll take 1 Beckwith over 10 Welter's any day.... With playing time and experience Beckwith will compete and only get better... Can't say that about Welter... I'm sure the dude has heart but after almost 2 seasons I see no progression with him... In other words, he's not SEC caliber LB...
