Why Should We Think that LSU Will Compete for a NC in 2015?

I am not trying to be pessimistic, but we lose a bunch on the OLine and both DEs. Dural probably goes pro. Mills will be gone. Will the middle of our defense get better?
We are saying that Harris, Fournette, Dupre, and Quinn having another year under their belts will make us a NC contender. I don't see it.
We are weak on the lines and our scheme is terrible. What will one more year do to make us contenders next year? Where is the strength coming from? How do we fix the defense?
If the team gells and suddenly steps up and we win some of these games coming up and finish 8-4 or so, then okay. Maybe we can make the jump next year. But, if we are only as good as we looked against State and Auburn and we lose the guys we are going to lose for next year, then where does the improvement come from to suddenly vault us into the National Title conversation?
I am asking.

Because there is not a better coach in the country at bouncing back than les. Just compare 2012 to 2013.

Phil Steele thread wasn't good enough for ya, eh?

Are you serious? 2013? You lose 3 games and don't make a BCS bowl. How the hell is that bouncing back, really hope you are joking.

Phil Steele is constantly wrong.
I thought that the question was worth its own thread. It is a legitimate question. I would love to get excited about next season. If the only problem was inexperience at QB and skill positions, then ok. But, our line play on both sides is pretty bad. How does it get better?

I've been saying all offseason that 2015 was going to be the year, but now I'm crawfishing on that big time. Unless there is significant improvement from the defense next year's team won't win shite. I don't care how "exciting" people think high flying offenses are, you don't win championships without defense. Just ask Chip Kelly, Rich Rodriguez, Kevin Sumlin, etc.

Um, 2012 was better than 2013.
We barely lose to Florida, Alabama, and Clemson. If we stop Alabama, we win the SEC West and probably go to the National Championship Game.
In 2013, we lose to an average Ole Miss, a good Georgia team, and we get blown out by Alabama. The team was BETTER in 2012 overall than it was in 2013 overall.
We almost also lost to Arkansas last year to go 8-4 in the regular season.

It doesn't you lose 5 senior that have been moved around this year to try to make the line better and one junior that may leave early for draft. Will just be the same young team crap next year.

Because all of our problems will be fixed by next year. Depth and expierence. We won't miss roscoe, hunter can benefit by coming back. mills could benefit another year. Linebackers will be the same unit minus welter. All of our skill positions return outside Hillard and Magee.

the OP is correct. With all the problems we have this year, and another year of graduation/draft losses on both sides of the ball, I'm not seeing anything close to a title run. Hopefully we'll be better, of course, but I'm not understanding the championship talk.

Because its cyclical. LSU is GUARANTEED to make the MNC game simply because they went to the 'ship in '03, '07, and '11. That's how Les Miles plans and plots his success.

inb4 somebody mentions that Auburn went from 0-8 in conference to 13-1 and the Title Game in one year?
Not saying it's LIKELY, but nevertheless is proven to be POSSIBLE...

Auburn had a new coach, fresh scheme, better play calling, and an enthusiastic attitude. AU wasn't "stale" in 2013.

3.
Kwon gone See #1
Dural gone.See #1
Basically recent history negates all our could be positives

So, if "barely losing" is like a win, but "almost losing" is like a loss, shouldn't they cancel one another out?
I mean, I know they don't actually change in the W-L columns, just saying in whatever twisted logic is percolating inside your head.

I hate it, but you're correct. To me, it's not the losses on the OL that will be the problem. It's the terrible offensive scheme we run. It's wasn't good enough to win in 2011 and it won't be in 2015 either. frick it pisses me off.

quote:The OL will be better next season. La'el is the only one that will be missed in the slightest. The new OL starters will be more suited to what Grimes wants with his Zone Blocking techniques. I expect Dodd to be the starting Center with Pocic and Clapp in there somewhere. You've got to have OL's that can quickly pick up their assignments on the fly and know who they're teaming up with in the correct "Zone." Individual size and strength are not as important as "Team Work." Recruiting the right type of OL is crucial to this. Agility and Football Smarts are critical in Zone.
I am not trying to be pessimistic, but we lose a bunch on the OLine

I am saying that the team was better overall in 2012 than it was in 2013. We had flashy numbers on offense in 2013, but went 9-3 in the regular season compared to 10-2 in 2012 with being one defensive stop away from winning the West and possibly playing for a national championship. The whole season was better. 2013 wasn't even close to that. We were 7-3 coming out of the Alabama debacle and were playing for nothing.
Both years finished 10-3, but the quality of the season was totally different.
The last time that LSU was competing for any kind of championship was late in the 4th quarter against Alabama in 2012 with Tiger Stadium rocking and LSU clinging to a 4 point lead. We have not competed for anything since that little swing pass went for a TD. You can point to 1/9/12 as the beginning of the decline, but really, losing to Alabama at home that night was when true decline set in.
