This was an obvious call, by the book. Rule 9-2-1h explicitly prohibits “bowing at the waist after a good play.”

Also, this classic video seems appropriate after the loss LINK

Running 30 yards away from the play and standing at midfield to bow is attention whoring your celebration over one tackle, definitely deserving of the penalty.

Right call.

Wow

Are the lockers room at OSU separate from the stadium or something?

That call represents everything wrong with football. So dumb to cost a team a game and maybe a championships over a guy celebrating a clean play.

agreed

I HATE officiating emotion out of the game. He wasn't taunting anyone and it wasnt over the top

This

It's not like it was his immediate reaction after the play, he wanted to be a attention whore and ran to midfield.

It is a dumb call, but you have to know not to celebrate like that in the current game situation. It wasn't just pure enthusiasm, but a planned celebration. Arizona had one called on them earlier in the game and I've seen multiple people called for the "you can't see me" celebration. Those refs were pitiful last night and it's a shame that this will take away from the game, but Oregon's run defense was pitiful last night and I would penalize anyone from that defense that thought they deserved to celebrate anything at any point in the game last night.

Why did he need to do that?

Selfish move that cost his team big time. Moral here is act for the team, which every athlete these days can take a lesson in.

I'm happy about the Oregon loss, but you're right about this. It was a BS call.

It wasn't. Almost every player will celebrate after a good play but this guy ran 30 yards to mid field to do it. That is excessive and unnecessary. Make you play, get up, do your dance or whatever and move on. You dont have to run down the field to do it.

So can you do it after a bad play?

How about mediocre?

You just contradicted yourself, proving it was the right call. Let's just add that the player in question ran from the red zone to midfield to do his little bow.

It sucks for Oregon, but it was a blatant penalty.

As my team benefited from a an OL tripping a guy 70 yards away from the ball last weekend, i have no comment on officiating.

I'm not sure why people are shocked that a player doing something expressly forbidden in the rule book resulted in a penalty.
