My dad had smith model 15 stolen out of his truck back around 1985. It was used in a murder in the 1990's. They returned it to him after the trial was over. It was still in pretty good shape considering.

I would probably sell it and not inform them that it was involved in a suicide

Talk about depreciation.

You gotta think there's blood all over that thing. I've seen what that thing does to deer at 100 yards. I can't imagine a point blank shot to the dome (assuming that's what he did).

ETA: nobody is going to want it if I tell them, and I'm not going to want to be near it either. Is it bad that I'm kinda pissed at this dude?

Probably not much spatter if he shot himself in the head. Hopefully the cops cleaned it up after the investigation. I'd still sell it personally if it wasn't a family gun.

How on earth do you get that impression? Granted, it is definitely a unique situation now, but I initially started the thread just thinking I had a new old gun and was pumped. Now it's just weird.

Your wish won't change reality. Keep your gun.

I think you're being a little dramatic. Who cares if it was used in a suicide? Not a big deal to me. What if it were used in a murder? A robbery?

But on the other hand, if you're looking to get rid of it cheap, I will take it off your hands.

Also, who kills themselves with a rifle? What is this, Full Metal Jacket?

I agree.

behop, it's not a huge deal. I would keep the damn thing. I agree it's terrible someone killed themselves but unfortunately that happens everyday.

Keep the rifle.

I don't feel like I'm being dramatic. The thought of that being how they found it never really crossed my mind, so it was just really surprising. Just kinda shocked is all.

That's what I thought, too. I guess he wanted to make sure he wouldn't need a follow-up.

Anybody else have stolen gun/property recovery stories?

This one is mine. Had been missing for nearly three years.......turns up in a pre-schoolers backpack. Teacher found it during naptime. Nobody ran the numbers...I noticed it on the front page of the paper and called the Chief of Police. "Thats my gun!" Pulled out my receipt and drove up to the PD and claimed it!

ETA.....probably just outed myself to some of you guys.

beHop, I'm looking for a .35, post pics when its returned.

"Nobody ran the numbers"

Sounds like you ruined some poor cops day. He was about to have a new toy.
