He only had over 30 home runs 3 times. Is this deserving of a permanent retired jersey number?
back to back MVPs

Nah, he would be first ballot. 3400+ hits at SS along with 260 bombs is first ballot. It was a fluke Biggio did not get first ballot. No need to subject hypothetical KC Jeter to that as well.
Well, he wouldn't have gotten NEARLY as many at bats in Kansas City. He wouldn't have as many hits, runs, RBI, etc.
However, on the flip side, you have to consider how much harder it is to be successful in New York (as we have seen for a lot of guys).
So I think it can go both ways.

Did they retire his number or his jersey? Huge difference.

Well so 1-9 they have retired every number at least once with 8 twice. I guess they will have Spring Training and Call up numbers year round.

They play 162 in KC, just like everyone else.

think about all the home games the yankees have won over 20 years compared to KC... that's Jeter at bats in the bottom of the 9th he doesn't get

NY's offense has been far superior to KC's over the course of his career.....better offenses cycle through the batting order more often, it's fair to assume he would have more ABs playing in New York
