Hard to tell from that angle. I would assume they were running a cover 3 or cover 4 there since they had 8 in coverage

Regardless, it surely (wasn't) the 3rd and some 2nd string defense on the field.

4th Qtr

12:50 on the clock:
Miss St defense players on the field;
91, 42, 22, 2, 9, 96, 39, 47, 98, 26, 50, 5,

2:30 on the clock
23, 17, 98, 47, 5, 14, 44, 39

The 2nd Touchdown of the Qtr is scored on #5 Starting CB Love.

1:48 on the clock
Mullen is sweating bullets as the snap sails high and LSU recovers.

Miss St Players on Defense;
48, 96, 91, 2, 5 Touchdown again on Starting CB #5 Love.

Last possession; less than a minute
50, 2, 23, 93, 92, 48, 91, 3, 5 all on the field
as they have been for the 2nd half.

Look up the depth chart;
LINK

Screw taking the insult to injury from folks trying to say it was Miss St's 3rd String on the field.

Look up those numbers for yourself.
All Starters with a few obviously rotating 2nd string to keep fresh.

3rd and 2nd string (ONLY) > bullshite

Jennings was under a lot more pressure, during the game. I'm not saying Harris couldn't have performed better, but we just don't know. Going forward, it's up to the coaches, to have a true Qb competition, even if that means LSU scores 70+ points this weekend. frick lining up, and running the ball 52 times, they need to find out what they have at Qb, if not, LSU is in for a long season.

Going into a Prevent Defense prevents you from winning.

Jennings has shown nothing against real competition to suggest he is the answer. Wisky owned him; Moo State owned him.

Hell he was barely above 50% completion against ULM.

And the ULM game by lining up and plowing 3 yards a crack we wasted a glorious opportunity to let the QBs play a little so Harris can get more experience.

There is absolutely no doubt who the future is. Hell the 22 yard sideline throw to Diarse in the 4th was unbelievable....

IMO we need to give Harris 20-25 passes this next game to see how he does against pressure. Of course it's not Auburn, but is possibly ULM level.

I just really believe our best chance to salvage the season is stick Harris in the shotgun at least 50% of games and have 3-4 WRs with Fournette as a 5th option.

Lol, back in the day when the Saints rarely had a lead late in the game, they always went into prevent defense, and sure enough, it prevented the Saints from winning almost every time.

you don't see how throwing against a 3-man front and 3-over-the-top is easier than a defense that's playing honest?

Most objective people watching the MSU game (also factoring in his performance in the bowl game and the Wisconsin game) will say Harris needs to play more....period. Jennings is not getting it done. Maybe he doesn' start, but he needs to be playing at least as much as Jennings. Of course, the Oline is not helping things, but Jennings can't complete passes with consistency and it's killing us. Those throws Harris made were not an anomaly. He is a better passer. Isn't it obvious that defenses don't respect our passing game because they know Jennings will throw it in the dirt or behind receivers at least 3-4 times a game even if they are wide open. He locks in on his primary receiver. He doesn't make decisions fast enough.

His supposed strengths (running, read option, and long ball) are not much better than what Harris does. In addition, Harris is a much better passer. If Harris can't remember all the plays, then work on "enough" plays for an effective game plan with him in the game. I'd bet harris can hit Fournette on that screen pass, which should be run at least 3 times a game.

P.S. - Enough Magee. He should be 4th on the depth chart right now.

Prevent or no prevent. That throw right there is threading the fvcking needle between two starting DB's.

agree, i would throw and pass out of the shotgun, can you imagine Fournette running out of the shotgun in that open space!!!! jesus, id hate to be a DB trying to take him down at full speed

Umm...isn't a prevent defense supposed to prevent exactly the type of plays that he was making?

How much football have you actually watched? It is very easy to move the football down field agains a prevent defense. there is no pash rush so the QB has time. The middle of the field is wide open so big gains are easy to come by.

A team puts up some 4th quarter yards against us and then point out they got some yardage, we always say garbage time doesn't matter.

We do it in garbage time, and we get really really happy.

yeah. exactly.

switch spots with state in this game. if chavis put in that kind of D (and he would've) how pissed would our fans be??!!

how much of it would be "why are we LETTING them do this??"

"Rewatching now. Yeah those are insane throws by Harris."

This is what it comes down to for me. We have one guy with an average D-1 arm and one guy with a well above average arm. The one Harris made to the sideline near the end of the game is one that very few QB's can make.

Prevent defenses are there to prevent the other team from scoring....i.e., keep the plays underneath. They actually, in their nature, allow for completions by playing everyone deep so as to disallow a receiver from scoring. Prevent defenses are fail-safe mechanisms. They are not intended to disrupt the line-of-scrimmage or the QB, or even the WR routes, for the most part.
