Thoughts on Rum House?

Wife and I went to the one in Baton Rouge and had a very nice meal.
We split the curried mussels which were very good and I got the 4 taco plate with the duck, lamb vinadloo, seared scallops, and calypso beef tacos.
All were loaded with meat and fresh toppings. It came with a meat pie which was spiced nicely and some fried plantains. Also had a side of the black beans with chorizo relish and crema.
The atmosphere was a little too lively as the acoustics of the restaurant are kind of bad and the interior is so loud you have to yell at the person 3 feet away from you to talk.
But I'll be back. The food was different, fun, and casual.

i think its more of a place to drink and be seen in BR

New Orleans one has great drinks, exceptional atmosphere and meh food.
I would never wait in their ridiculously long lines. Place stays as busy as every 5-star restaurant in the city.

Really thought we were going to have to wait when I hunted for a parking spot, but there were plenty of tables and we were seated right away.

BR is pretty much the same. Good place for singles to go at happy hour. A couple of those Painkillers and you're good to go.
Strangely I don't care for the lamb, scallops, or meat pies that the OP mentioned.

It was the same for me.
FWIW, I went to the one in BR maybe 2 months ago for the first time. I was very impressed. Ambiance was good. Service was great. It was clean. I loved the menu. I can't remember what I ordered exactly, but I got the four taco combo. It came out and looked great. Sides (cheese polenta, can't remember the other one) were awesome. There was one problem.....
THE TACOS WERE COLD!!!!
Like, not even warm. It was the biggest buzzkill. I tried so hard to like it. The flavors tasted as good as they could, cold. Wife and I got the bread pudding for dessert. It was meh.
I was very disappointed, but I will try it one more time. Just haven't made it back there yet.

you didnt send the plate back?

I went last week for the first time. The tacos sounded way better on the menu than they ended up tasting. The tortillas weren't very fresh and the other ingredients didn't seem of the best quality.
Very happening atmosphere though. Lots of talent all around.

For one reason or another, no.
Probably didn't help that we went after work on a friday, and I was STARVING.
I'll give the Rum House another chance sometime down the road.

Yeah I'd have had to send those back. Cold tacos would have been a downer.
My only issue was I chomped on a few duck bones in my taco. It happens, but still not fun. I put them off to the side and after the waitress returned our paid bill, I brought them to her attention to let the kitchen know to be more careful. I didn't want it to appear I was complaining to get a free meal or something comped.

I won't say mine were cold. But the temperature wasn't ideal.

They did a great job with the BR location. The food still sucks. But the place is nice.

shite man if the food is cold, send it back.
fwiw, ive never worked in a restaurant, but i imagine your food becomes a priority when it gets sent back. couldnt be that long of a wait.
but yea ill try the place down the road sometime also

The Rum House of Baton Rouge proves the old adage, "In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king."
