There's a band from Birmingham called Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires and they have a line in one of their songs that says "Alabama by now I should hope you'd know, I'd die for you if called to do so." That's how I feel.

the founders' idea of a militia is akin to the modern day national guard.
a modern day militia is usually a gun enthusiast group composed of people crazier than branch dividians.
my answer is no. if the shite hits the fan, we get invaded and duty calls, I'd rather go back into the army.
This.
When I was a child I played 'Army', 'Civil War', 'Cowboys and Indians'.
When I grew up, I put away childish things.

Please go do some research. The modern day Guard is not what the foundered intended, inn fact the Guard did not even exist until the early 20th century.
I'm not saying these guys the OP is describing is what the founders intended. But really, they are closer to the original state militia than the National Guard today.

I'd join the National Guard.
The "militia" that the OP is talking about...no, just no.

Sure.
But if it was just anti government or anti Obama goobers? Nope. Could I take up arms against US soldiers? Which, I feel, is a lot of these guys wet dream. No. I would not.
And as mentioned. If these guys were our defense we are fricked.

This is correct. Our founding fathers wanted private citizens to band together in the event that the Government became too powerful and tried to limit civil liberties and individual rights to fight back. The NG us under Government control so it's not a militia by our founding fathers definition....IMO
And yes I would gladly join.....it's our duty.

I am armed and ready to roll, in the event the ruskies invade.
However,I would never go play guns in the woods with abunch of slack-jawed, cross-eyed, meth heads or neo-nazis.

Well I'm not sure if you're aware of this, it was quite common for militia units to "elect" their officers.
Really the only thing different from these home grown modern-day "militias" and the original state militias, is the lack of sanctioning from the governor of that state. Other than that, they are far more like the original state militias than the modern National Guard.
(In the interest of full disclosure, I served in the Alabama Army National Guard from the mid to late 90's after I came off active duty with the Regular Army.)

Florida State Militia? A loose collection of survivalists, fundamental Christians, paranoids and mental defectives, explosives nuts and Tim McVeigh worshippers?
Ohellyeah, sign me up.

the hardware to wage war against the invasion of a foreign enemy was a musket gun if you lived in the era of the american revolution.
a modern day unit would require a unified command that can acquire and use anti aircraft weapons, tanks, ground artillery along with battleships, submarines, and long range bombers.
no militia can acquire this sort of hardware.
the turds will say its because of obama, but, its because its not in american to have a militia that could separate us from our union again. this was one of the consequences of the civil war

y'all really need to go check your state laws....
depending on the state, you can be conscripted into militia service....state militia laws are broader than federal law and in some cases also include women
the federal militia is defined in Title 10 USC, which is the basis for the draft
Louisiana Revised Statue 29:3
§3. Militia
A. All able-bodied persons between the ages of seventeen and sixty-four residing in this state and who are not exempt by the laws of the United States of America or of this state constitute the militia of Louisiana and are subject to military duty.
B. The militia is divided into two classes, the organized militia and the unorganized militia.
(1) The organized militia consists of the national guard, the Louisiana State Guard and other organized military forces which may be authorized by law.
(2) The unorganized militia consists of all other persons subject to military duty.
Acts 1974, No. 622, §1.
