With this, you're attacking an entire people group.
I get the first thing you said, but where the hell is the "attack"? Do gay people all live 100% celibate lives? No? Then they're "getting the D", aren't they?
Again, how is stating a fact about something an "attack"?

lowest common denominator society.
Meaning - lets bring it down so that the dumbest, most offended, and least capable can keep up and be happy.

Read the short story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut.
Not so paranoid after all, was he?
ETA: there's a Wikipedia entry on it if tl;dr.

I believe in equality for all, however, this is just sophomoric humor and, if it offends anyone, boo f'n hoo...Get a life...

"Thinking about all the banners from the past and THIS is the one that brought the hammer down??"
It really is unbelievable. Free speech - even dumb, disagreeable speech - was once a hallmark of college campuses. Now, college campuses are where free speech is most endangered. That happened crazy fast.

Not saying I agree with it. But that's what they feel. "Get on board 100%, hug a tree, or you're oppressing us."
Not saying this necessarily applies to this situation, but I hear this from people all the time. "I just tell the truth all the time. Doesn't make me a jerk." Actually, sometimes it does. Just because someone is ugly doesn't mean you have to tell them that.

I have a feeling they'll be back up soon.

This isn't a first amendment issue.

While I cannot say I have read everything printed on this issue, from what I have read, it appears the Sam sign may have been offensive to some, it did not violate code of conduct.
IF that is the case DKE rolled over and played dead instead of fighting for free speech.
Can't only blame a hypersensitive media and Greek and university officials if they did not fight for their rights.
It's one thing to take an offensive banner down that may be reasonable and an appropriate act it's a whole other deal stop the practice all together.
Freedom isn't free sometimes you have to actually fight for it.

You have freedom of speech, but you're not exempt from the backlash of said speech. Dixie Chicks learned that lesson a while back. LSU didn't want to deal with it, Deke didn't either.
If there were threats of imprisonment, that's another story.

OK. It's in poor taste. You can say they ARE being jerks.
However, saying that and saying that they're "attacking" a group of people are two different things.
For argument's sake let's say that you liked shoving brussels sprouts up your arse AND were very public and open about it. If the Dekes then made a banner saying "Joe takes brussels sprouts up his arse", there's no way it could be construed as an attack. Poor taste? Check. Jerks? Check. But an attack? I'm afraid not.

Maybe there is a nicer way of saying Sam takes the D

Imprisonment for a sign that did not violate the code of conduct?
Posted on 9/11/14 at 8:46 am to Starrkevious Ringo
Agreed, it isn't an attack. He's gay, it's the truth, but they did it in a low brow manner. But that's how super sensitive the gay rights movement is. Don't even look at them funny.

"Michael isn't the only Sam who will be symbolically violated by erect penile tissue in the form of a lopsided football defeat this evening"
... nah

I'm just saying that's what would actually make it a first amendment deal.

That just drives up your paint costs. Books are expensive.
