Out of sheer hilarity, I hope something awkward happens.
Seriously though, Jurgy said all of the right things here. Although I find it weird that he now included midfielders when he said of the guys that made it over Donovan.
Oh well.

I'm hoping for an awkward hug or missed handshake. Those are the best.

It's awkward enough knowing the man could have helped the team
Oh well

Perhaps Jurgy will be fired in four years and replaced with Donovan.
That would be perfect.

+1 I hope we bomb out at the World Cup 2018.
#1 USMNT fan rightchea
Ha I just remembered that Donovan wanted the team to fail (only for a few hours) without him.

DaFuq?
There is nothing redeeming about that.

Even though this won't fix anything, I'm just really glad it's happening this way. Even if they're never best friends, it'll be nice to see Jurgen let Landon have his moment for everyone to thank him for what he's done. After all that's happened, it'll be nice for Landon to go out there and finish on his terms.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.

I thought a couple of people would be mildly rustled (not bothering to reply). Apparently many were greatly rustled. I fully expected uway to show up though.
All tongue in cheek. I hope we do great in 2018. Donovan would not want the job anyway.

If there's anything I've learned from trying to rustle jimmies here, it's that they always rustle harder than you think or expect. I decided to take it back a notch when I was namechecked in the LD retirement thread and realized that occasionally people actually read the stupid shite I say.
All bullshite aside, I'd love to see LD take some time off and then become involved with the MLS in order to grow the game. I think with his pull and respect with young players here, he'd be able to do much more good than he would as a commentator/pundit. That said, if he would replace Alexi Lalas as the resident smugman, I'd be okay with it. At least Landon has some real credentials and has been super successful at a high level. I wasn't even butthurt when he wasn't positive about the team during the World Cup. I'm fine with that. I just would rather see Landon saying real shite from experience instead of Alexi calling every gritty performance by any team "American" and beating off to set plays.
I will openly admit to being a major douche and troll related to LD, but I will never apologize about disliking Alexi... outside of when we play Mexico. He's awesome as shite then.

What part of this thread shows that I haven't "let it go"?

Eh, its not directed towards you. Sorry, just replied to the thread and the topic in general. Media, fans etc. Regardless of which side of the fence folks sit.

It'll never be let go completely. What needs to happen is fans on both sides need to make amends with what happened and stop fighting each other. Every time Landon Donovan comes up it shouldn't turn into a hatefest for Jurgen and people bashing Landon's quality.
We saw what happened. Everyone accepts that he could have helped undoubtedly, but nothing will change it. Jurgen's moving forward without holding a grudge for him disagreeing and taking a great stand here to honor him, and I'm guessing that Landon will also. They'll probably talk about it and move on a professionals. Not saying they'll get over it completely.
What's great about this match is that they have a chance to somewhat reunify the fans by being civil with each other. A big part of the shitstorm is how upset fans were by the way the situation was treated and how personal it seemed. If Jurgen does what he can to make this night special for Landon, I think it'll make people feel a LITTLE bit better. After that, we can move forward with a better ending.

I wonder what role Donovan will move into vis a vis soccer once he has retired. I think he will lean to being a guest analyst on shows rather than a match commentator or regular analyst. I think he will be involved in community outreach and youth programs on a grassroots level. I don't think he will be involved with a club on an investment or management level.

I upvoted your post about Landon, which says a lot cause of how much we argued about this.
I will never like Jurgen and will always be team Landon, but it is a good see he is getting a testimonial at the least.

This is what needs to happen honestly. He's such an influential figure in the US Soccer and MLS communities that it'd be almost wasteful to tie him down to a single club or entity. He's the one image we have that is truly ubiquitous when it comes to the sport in America, and I think he could get a lot more kids to take the sport seriously, play in America, and move the sport forward.

That's awesome. Especially since I've argued with you and Broski for pretty much all of the Summer. I just think it's time to move past this all and pay Landon his dues. Plus, I have to focus all of my banter towards Chelsea fans, anyway.
Seriously, though, I think that is what the testimonial is all about. Since he's announced his retirement, I've sort of gone back and reminisced. Regardless of how you felt about the cut, Landon Donovan is an American sports icon period. It's bigger than just soccer, and at this point, anyone who is taking this opportunity to be negative is just trying to piss people off. Every point that could be made has been made, and every argument has been exhausted.
