Snobs thread spinoff: how far does your snobbery reach?

I was reading through the NOMA thread and looking at the food pictures and thinking "That's cool and all, but I'd rather have my grandmother's snap beans and cornbread and pot roast over that stuff." I guess I just prefer comfort foods over these exotic dishes.
This seems to completely contradict my opinions on beer. I am an admitted, proud, card-carrying beer snob. If good craft beer is not available, I will not drink beer 99% of the time. I simply refuse to acknowledge and accept shitty mass produced swill
Are there any of your preferences, biases and snobby opinions that contradict your opinions on other subjects?

I feel like I can snob out with the best of them, but then again I can also slum it at Taco Bell and be completely happy.
But I'm with you on beer. I don't drink BMC. It's against my morals.

I am, without a doubt, far snobbier when it comes to beer than with food, wine, or liquor.
I still prefer to eat local and avoid chains, but I'm nowhere near the foodie that some are.

I'll drink High Life and eat Taco Bell, but I prefer the finer things.

Not really a snob. I like mostly all foods, but I'm picky on alcohol.

I get that, and appreciate that, but if someone says "let's go to Chili's" I can go get a burger and be perfectly happy, but when the waitress asks what I want to drink, if they don't have a craft beer, I'm having water/tea

Pretty much this.
I won't vomit on contact with "lesser" foods. I have High Life in my fridge sitting next to a $20 bottle of beer. I love a good trashy Taco Bell meal from time to time.
But generally, I prefer high quality food and drink.
My mom cooked "home meals" every day growing up, and dining out was extremely rare. You'll never see me look at a dish with unique food and say, "I'd prefer roast". I am burnt out on that food. I'll still indulge, but I'm burnt out for the most part.

2 for 1 margaritas!
I'd make an attempt to steer the group somewhere else, but if all else fails, I can find something I like pretty much anywhere.

I don't eat unhealthy, processed foods because I prefer to eat healthfully. So I don't really consider it snobbery.
But to answer the question, I won't go out to dinner with someone that has bad table manners, ie someone chewing with their mouth open, eating off other's plates, sqawbling over the division of the check after the meal, etc.

That was a funny thread

Yeah, I am not the type to gawk at suggestions. And honestly, I haven't experienced someone suggesting a place like Chili's since I was in high school.

I'm sorry, but if you physically regurgitate from biting into a hamburger, you have bigger issues

Also true, almost everyone I hang out with these days holds similar values and would also rather the local joints and would prefer to get craft beer over BMC.

I went to Superior Grill last October. Last time I recall being forced to eat a shitty place.

Exactly. And honestly, as far as BR bars go, the most popular places serve decent beer anyway.
I can't tell you the last time I've been asked to have drinks anywhere besides Bulldog, Pelican, or Port.
And if it's not a beer bar, it's usually somewhere that I can order a gin martini anyway, which I love to do.

WalkOns would be the most common "meh" place I get asked to go, but I have a couple items I don't mind there, so it's not a huge deal. Their lack of beer selection is far more annoying.

Really? Nobody you've gone to dinner with has suggested a chain restaurant since you were in high school?
That's impressive.
Chain restaurants dominate where I live. Locally owned restaurants are hard to come by. The one good one I know of is where we go eat on the rate occasion we go out to eat. But when we go out with a group from work, or my wife's work, it's nearly always a chain, unless we can talk them into the local place.

I've had one friend who loves to request PF Changs, but I don't consider that Chili's-esq
I'll tear up Fleming's happy hour and/or Mussels Josephine at the bar at Bonefish. And we do Ruth's for Jones occasionally.
Otherwise, I've been able to avoid chains fairly successfully. Friends know how much I love food and they actually enjoy me picking out a place.
