I guess someone like him would have dumped Stephen Hawking in a trash can
Hawking wasn't diagnosed until he was 21 so unless you're making some genetic marker argument regarding abortions I don't see the point of this comment.
Dawkins is intelligent but he is way out of his depth with his statement. A fricking eugenicist in atheist's clothing.

But if someone told me right now I was going to be reborn with DS, I would want to be aborted for my sake and my families sake.

Can you freaking read???
Yes.
You are inconsistent. It's because you're trying to be all things to all people.

Can it suffer? Life is suffering. Every bit of stimulus that tells you that you are hungry is suffering. Feeling hot or cold is suffering. I just suppose we should kill every living thing to prevent all suffering.

quote:By the quickness in which they judge. We have mentored many expecting parents making the decision between abortion and raising the child. Obviously we do everything in out power to convince them to not abort. But it isnt as simple as sitting in an ivory tower and calling them "selfish".
What makes you think the people in this thread don't know anything about the "burden" of raising a special needs child?
In the parents head the first thought is feeling sorry for themselves. And this is normal. Their lives will be forever changed. It is not easy to know some of the dreams and wants you had dissapear in an instant through no fault of your own. Easy to say selfish when you dont go through it.
That is my only point. I am against the abortion, but am not going to right of someone who choses to do so with just a swift thought of "selfish". And im sure your Jesus wouldnt either

Yes.

Incorrect. Being an atheist allows him to have such opinions without worrying about inconsistency of belief.
No it doesn't. Your prejudice against atheists leads you to blame this wholly unrelated opinion to his lack of belief in a god.

Regardless, I fail to see how him "being an atheist" allows him to not have to worry about inconsistency of belief. Could you explain more what you mean? That seems like a pretty generalized critique.
I can tell you why a Christian cannot hold this belief and still reasonably call himself Christian.
Can you tell me why an atheist cannot hold this belief and still reasonably call himself an atheist?
Refer to the Brothers Karamazov quote on page 1.

You are correct. And Gene Stallings would tell you right now that John Mark made his life richer than being a burden for him.
Gene Stallings punched the Dr who told him his son was mongoloid. Also Stallings told of a time when some reported asked Mark who was the greatest coach at Alabama and he replied, "Nick Saban." It's just another anecdotal tale about how rural backwater hillbilly rednecks were immune to proper life concepts given to us by our betters.

The quickness of judgment, as you say, could very well be attributed to life experience in this situation.

Easy to say selfish when you dont go through it.
And again you make baseless assumptions.

And im sure your Jesus wouldnt either
I see as well as yourself being a judgmental a-hole, you have no idea what Jesus preached. He would absolutely chastise them as being selfish.

Jesus said that if a person harms a little one, it would be better for that person to have a giant millstone around his neck and fling himself into the sea.
What you said is a giant fail!

Ok sweet. I may go back to church just so I can start hating on people again. Sounds fun

This statement belies a harsh and cruel view of the world bordering on inhuman, you have my sympathy

sorry if it upsets you that some people disagree with baby murder.

Yea I thought that was a particularly weak point. I can kill people everyday without them suffering a lick, does that make it morally acceptable?
