Should have said, "You are just sooooo good looking." (Seinfeld reference)

So I called up Principal Peggy Dodds just a little while ago and got her side of the story before shite hits the fan in the conservative world.
According to Dodds, Turner was not given an in-school suspension. She wasn’t sent out of the classroom, either — she chose to walk out. And, most importantly, she wasn’t punished by the teacher for saying “God bless you” — however, the teacher did admonish her for “disrupting the classroom.”
It's from a blog so take it for what it's worth

It's probably been said, but this is not a religious or first amendment issue.
She simply broke the rules and was punished. Teachers have a right to post rules to keep their classes quiet and orderly. This particular teacher didn't want her teaching interrupted by someone speaking when someone sneezes.
While she may be going a bit overboard, it's high school and rules are rules. Just follow them and there is no issue here.

Ha. I actually broke this story on TD before Drudge picked up on it. That is why you should come here first for your day's news.

Quit being a stereotype. The ACLU defends religious liberties ALL THE DAMN TIME.

I mean...I know it's cool to pretend they don't, but they do.

It is Kige, what do you expect.
The ACLU is a great organization. It blows my mind that people have a problem with them with everything we know about our government today

I'll admit that when I was far more conservative than I am today that I too reflexively disliked the mere mention of the ACLU. As I've gotten older and my social views have slid more towards the middle, I've actually been surprised at just how often the ACLU sides with my former side even though at the time I had no idea. Religion is a good example of that.
While they do fight to keep religion out of public schools when it's administration or teachers pushing faith, they historically have always stood up for students' expression of the same.

Which is a logical viewpoint IMO

Meh, someone saying "bless you" after a sneeze is no more distracting/interrupting than the sneeze itself.
A teacher making a deal out of something so incredibly minute is what caused a disruption.
When the teacher is handing out pieces of paper for class, and one of the students says "thank you" for handing it to them, should that be scolded as well for causing an interruption?

She says she finished the class period in in-school suspension.
So, she was kicked out of class for breaking a rule and then arguing with a teacher.

I actually enjoy the irony of that idiotic comic. The truth is, for eons that's a pretty accurate portrayal of how nonbelievers had to act when they encountered religious folks...either because to be open about their disagreement in regards to some subject could mean something as simple as being ostracized by their community to straight yup torture and death. So mumbling under one's breath was about as good as it got for a LONG time. I feel terrible for those millions and millions of non believers that had to live under that system.
And now...when atheists feel more comfortable to even be open that they ARE atheists let alone push back occasionally in what is essentially a religious (Christian specifically) dominated country? We're told to stop being aggressive, preachy, proselytizing, angry, etc.
Seems the only acceptable option would be to just go along and agree, because quiet disagreement is met with the type of comic you posted, and open disagreement is met with the wails of being persecuted.
All things being equal, I'm going to stick with option 2 and risk being called names.

I know what you mean. I just moved to Houston and when I'm at a sports bar, people tell me "Go Texans." I used to explain that I am from NOLA and I do not pull for the Texans. Instead I'm a saints fan. I will root for Texans when it does not affect the Saints, but they really shouldn't be saying these things to me.
I got tired of it. Now I just nod my head. But I do feel so guilty toward Who Dat nation.

So, teachers can make any classroom rule they want without regard to the nations rules- the constitution?
Do you hate liberty or just love tyranny?
