I hear women say this when getting excited about seeing a newborn/toddler. No clue where it come from or what it means (if anything). Seems a recent thing.

You live in Louisiana and you don't know what "sha baby" means?

I think it's technically cher baby, which is French for beloved or dear. But people that don't know any better type or write it sha.

I'm pretty sure it means "now might be a good time for you to marry the father since the baby has arrived."

Yes, Prom...
We had a kid 9 months ago so maybe that's why I'm just now noticing it. But I've been around newborns before and never heard it.

I noticed it used in my thread about my son the other day. I've lived in Louisiana since birth and didn't know what it meant either. My wife knew though.

I live north of I-10, no one around here knows what that means.

It is cher, not sha. I always thought it meant sweet baby.

I live north of I-10 and I've known what it means since I was about 3 years old.
One of my pet peeves is when people spell it "sha baby" when they should know better.
"Chere bebe'" - it means sweet baby.
