re: I already see a big problem with SECN

I think I'll enjoy the SEC pregame show on Saturdays - I suppose similar to "Gameday," but SEC-specific.
To be truthful, I enjoy pretty much any program that talks about college football, more so when it's the SEC. Certainly I want to hear about LSU most of all, but I like watching the shows about the other teams, as well. When I've had enough of the other teams, I turn it off and come back when the guide lists something I want to see. Seems simple enough.

The first night it came on I was pretty underwhelmed by the SECN. But I guess anything just starting out has to build up.
I saw that the "Ghosts of Mississippi" episode of 30/30 (or was it SEC Stories?) was on yesterday. That was a pretty good program about a time/event I really never looked into deeply.
Of course I guess that was a hand me down ESPN program but still if they put good programming out and keep putting old games on I think the network will have some value, even above broadcasting live games.

We have our air time as well. Besides, I know plenty about my team. I like to see what is going on with the other 13 teams in the conference.

I love it for no reason then seeing what the Finebaum notorius callers look like. Darrell, Charles, Phyllis, Tammy, etc.
I have seen Tammy and Phyllis before, but not Charles or Darrell.

I am completely convinced that it will be every bit as compelling as the Longhorn Network...

LSU is the biggest game winner in the last seven years what more do you want our own referees like sabin has or maybe his schedule

You do realize the channel is for the entire conference right?

The SECN will give us more access to live LSU sports than we ever had before. That's its real value to all the schools in the conference. If you don't like the talking heads or pieces on other SEC schools, then don't watch. Pretty simple.

I can get people being pissed off about bad calls and such, but being pissed off about pre season analysis is another thing.

what in the hell did you expect. it's not the LSU network and there are 13 other teams. coverage for LSU football will vary as to the success of the team. the champs are gonna get the most coverage no matter who they are.

Said this first day.
I don't give a shite about the other teams ... I don't care about their little chants, songs, cheers and traditions.

quote:Unless and until the SECN/ESPN installs actual Southern people to plan and program and actually run the shows, who are familiar with the SEC to be their talking heads for the network (other than maybe T Tebow - or in addition to T), you've going to get at best a superficial kind of SEC coverage.
Since the network launched, there has been at least 30+ minutes of in depth analysis on the Alabama and Texas A&M QB situations.
Fact is, most of the midwestern/eastern regional talking types are so woefully unfamilar with the SEC beyond who they've heard of (see Alabama, Spurrier, Bear Bryant, Saban - maaaybe Billy Cannon around Halloween) back in their small town or insular Eastern environments, they have no idea of what to talk about when it comes to SEC football. Or who.
To most of them, the South as a region is some kind of exotic Dukes of Hazzard/Justin Wilson minstrel show - sort of funny, but of no real account to the rest of their reality.

Agree.
The only time I'll tune in to the SECN is for the actual games. I don't give a hoot about their analysis, especially pre-season. There's too much of that nonsense already (even on the Rant!)
If you don't like it, don't watch.
