They predicted, correctly it seems, that the video would inflame racial tensions.

Brown's family sees the release of the video as an attempt at character assassination.

What say ye?

quote:

Police in Ferguson released a video tape allegedly showing slain teen Michael Brown robbing a store even though the Justice Department warned that doing so could inflame racial tensions, CNN is reporting.

Ferguson cops had wanted to release the video on Thursday but held off when federal officials asked them not to release the tape, an unnamed law enforcement official told CNN. That tape allegedly showed Brown stealing cigars from a convenience store before a police officer shot the unarmed 18-year-old in the street last weekend.

Despite holding off Thursday, Ferguson police still decided to release the tape Friday over the Justice Department's objections, according to CNN.

My thoughts are it seems more like character assassination now than if they had just released it asap. Doj fricking shite up, as usual.

How is it character assassination? I would see character assassination as showing something that could view out of context or viewed without having the entire story. That's not the case here, the video clearly shows a racists move by brown when he stole and physically intimidated a minority store owner.

How could it possibly be designated as character assassination? Was that not really Brown in the video? Actual character assassination only occurs when false information is used to besmirch a person's character.

The video constituted CHARACTER REVELATION.

As for the video inflaming racial tensions, I'm sure it did. The people who are protesting, looting, and rioting don't give a damn about the truth. They have an agenda to promote.

Because, of course, he was well within his rights in committing that robbery.

I think had the video been released earlier, the reaction would be less violent and less emotionally- driven.

Of course it is. It doesn't matter if he stole 10 golden unicorns, that doesn't give the police the right to carry out an execution in the streets.

It's no different than when a girl gets raped and people point out that she wore slutty clothes or liked to sleep around. That's irrelevant to what happened.

The DOJ didn't want them to release the tape because the president needed more cover.

Remember, the DOJ had agitators on site in less than 24 hours, inflaming the situation. They knew the video would remove public support, so they wanted to keep it hidden.

These fricks in the administration are the most corrupt, pathetic people ever.

You mean the same crooked azz DOJ that was un cahoots with tgw IRS in targeting the Tea Party run by a racist bych ?

Screw the DOJ and Holder, this is a local government official. The witness is key here, he was bussy giving interviews with everyone but the police, once the police got him on record I imagine they then released the tape to show what kind of person this witness was, a robber.

How exactly is demonstrating someone's character considered the assassination. I believe the act of robbery is what destroyed his character.

Well hell...I reckon the DOJ should sue Police Depts. all over the land for keeping criminal records; I.e., character assignation.

Utter insanity.

The Obama administration just doesn't have any luck when it comes to videos inciting violence. At least our ambassador to Missouri wasn't killed when the natives stormed our consulate in Ferguson.

I think it was relevant to the young mans state of mind at the time of the incident with the cop.

I wouldn't trust the Ferguson cops in any of this. It sounds like BS.

Thursday still would have been 5 days after the shooting. Holding out on the video gives the witnesses more time to speak aka more time to put their foot in their mouth. Plus the way they handled it on Friday was a complete cluster.

I can see the local PD being resentful that the feds are looking over their shoulder on this.

(Posted on 8/15/14 at 5:03 pm to rb) This is not going to make a difference to the people that are pissed off for racial reasons. They have formed an emotional bond to Mike Brown and they will rationalize the release of the robbery video by saying the video is a character assassination by The Man and an attack on his memory. Ferguson may get even worse.
