There are very few just "pocket passers". Nearly every at least decent QB to come into the league the last few years, are either dual threat, or very mobile
We can agree to disagree. Duel threat QB's do well in college, not so well in the NFL. Using a QB as a running back in the NFL is asking for trouble, IMO. They might do well for a year or two, but they end up being hurt or falling in the depth chart.

I don't know what to say if you can't admit Mett has a mobility problem.
I will say I think he could still be a very good NFL qb without drastically improving his mobility. As for the Manning and Brady comparisons, both move much better in the pocket than Mett.

Besides Rodgers, name an elite QB that's isn't a pocket passer.
Define Elite?
Tom Brady, people are souring on him.
That leaves you with Peyton Manning and IDK
Brees is mobile, maybe not as much as Rodgers, but he can make some moves.

Replays on nfl network right now. Mett should be coming in later on

rogers is a pocket passer .... there will never be a qb with a long career that is a run first qb in the nfl .
How many run first QBs are actually starting? I'm talking guys with the ability to take off, but still pass well.
Newton 585 yards 6 TDs
Wilson 539 yards 1 TD
Kap 524 yards 4 TDs
RG3 489 yards
Smith 431 yards 1 TD
Luck 377 yards 4 TDs
Tannehill 238 yards 1 TD
Fitzpatrick 225 yards 3 TD
Foles 221 yards 3 TDs
Dalton 183 yards 2 TDs
What most of these guys have in common, is that they have only been in the league? the last 5 years. That is nearly 1/3 of the starting QBs in the league. The game is changing. DEs and LBs are getting faster.
Then there are guys like Locker, Cutler, Rodgers, Big Ben etc, who have great mobility. Add in Bortles by the end of this year too.

and of that list most of them are good passers also , my point was if you cant pass the ball you wont make it in the nfl ..
but we all know you don't have to be a running qb to be successful if your a good passer ....

Outside of Wilson, what do all of those guys have in common? 0 Superbowls. And Wilson is a good QB, but his stats are hardly elite. His superbowl is more attributable to a great defense and run game. I might be slightly off, but I think something like 11 of the last 12 (excluding Wilson) superbowl winning QBs are:
Brees (1)
Roethlisberger (2)
Eli (2)
Peyton (1) -- (Also 5 time MVP and least mobile QB ever)
Rodgers (1)
Brady (3)
Flacco (1)
Brees, Rodgers, and Roethlisberger are decently mobile, but that's by and large a list of pocket passers. At the very least you can go back and check the stats and I guarantee most of them average less than 10 yards rushing a game. And the list goes further than that, but just keeping this to the 2000s. Mobility is nice, but the speed of the NFL almost dictates against it more than it requires it IMO. The scrambles you can get away with in college get stopped for losses or no gains in the NFL. And it gets you hurt. A lot of these guys are quick to tuck and run without going through their reads. I agree that I'd like my QB to have the threat to run, but the point is being a pure pocket passer is still the bread and butter of the NFL.
Peyton is the least mobile QB you'll ever see and all he has done is be MVP more than anybody in the NFL and set multiple QB passing records.
Nobody is suggesting that Mettenberger is on the level of Manning, Brady, etc., but to say his lack of mobility means he cannot be successful in the NFL is an idiotic statement. And while he has some room for improvement in moving around in the pocket, he's barely played one game's worth of snaps in the NFL. Give him time. He made MAJOR strides in pocket movement from his 1st year to his 2nd year at LSU.

exactly that's why you don't see any teams running the read option or that wildcat it just doesn't work over time in the nfl ...
rg3 learned the hard way last year and now all you hear is that they are preaching to him to learn how to slide ....

All the mobility issues aside... Another thing that might trouble him in his career is is slow release. That said, I'm rooting for him! Hope he does well!

Mett will continue to make LSU proud.

Brees is a pocket passer that is elusive. That doesn't make him a dual threat. Goodness.

Mett actually looked really good moving in the pocket last night. He had one play where he held the ball too long but other that that he managed the pocket extremely well.

Went to the game last night. Mett looked really good throwing the ball. He definitely had the strongest arm on the field. As far as his mobility. He is very slow. If you watch the guy even walk around. It reminds you of a sloth. Watching him in warmups, the people around us were commenting on how something is still wrong with his knees. The Titans would be smart to at least send the dude to a sopped camp so he could at least work on his mechanics as a "jogger/runner". It would help with his mobility

I just don't see this. Of course he's going to look slow warming up next to Jake Locker. But for the most part he moved well enough in the pocket and extended plays when needed. He'll adjust to the speed of the defense with more reps.
I'm still very impressed for how he looks being two games into his pro career.

Not saying you are saying this but just making a point, you do not need to be Mobil in the since of taking off gaining 15 yards a carry or bring a threat to run, but you have to be Mobil in the pocket making people miss with subtle moves while keeping awareness down the field, that's all you need. He needs to get better at this but has shown that he is getting better so he def can be a very good QB. His knee will be his problem, if someone hits that knee again it could end his career. HOF QB prob not but could he win lots of games and mayb a Super Bowl absolutely, if he had the right players around him and a good D.

Mobility isn't the issue, it's pocket awareness, there were several times over the past two games where he felt the pressure and moved to find space with no problem. But on a few other occasions he's looked confused once the pocket started breaking down. That can only come with time and experience.

Which people? Ranters?
Bardy is nearing the end of his career, but he can still do it.

I see Mett as a quality backup in this league not a starter. His lack of mobility will kill his chances.
Agree with this, he's a stationary target back there.
