OT Lawyers- Is it legal to impose an upper age limit for a job?

This stems from a law disallowing people over age 70 to hold Justice of the Peace and Constable positions.
I understand there's pretty lengthy debate about it, but it seems like a fairly significant civil rights issue, no?

Mad? I don't get mad. I just try to help the person out. Going to court and saying, "Well, Your Honor, goldennugget said I could piihb and not hire her because she's over the age of 65," might not bode well for him.

Read it like the rest of us had to. When you get to the end, you'll look up and go "WTF does the Constitution even mean!?"

I worked with a man who hated his job. he applied to be a walmart greeter, and was denied due to being too young.
he was pissed and happy at the same time. he was about 45 at the time

I applaud his ambition. Shoot for the stars.

Yes, but it depends on the job position.

they should impose some sort of mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court Justices, or give periodic psych evals after certain age milestones, of course if that was an entrance requirement, we might not have a Supreme Court

1) I don't know, so ask a lawyer who does this.
2) There are Louisiana and (I think) federal laws relating to age discrimination.
3) I am pretty sure it is not a constitutional issue.
My guess is that you cannot do so unless it is reasonably related to the ability to do the job. But that is just a guess.

How many times can you call a TV lawyer for a free consultation? Maybe you should start there?

Ha!
If you seriously need a referral on this issue, email me at deepintheheartof@yahoo.com. I know a whole mess of employment lawyers. And not a single one of them advertises.

I think age discrimination is moot after a certain age. I think 65 is cut off, but could be older.
