I feel really stupid. I think I thought the moon was bigger in a conceptual sort of way, even though I knew it was way smaller than Earth.

I think the size shown is the relative size of the image, not the size of the moon compared to earth.

I'm sad that we won't have intergalactic travel and warfare in my life. Imagine owning a space ship and traveling. Jeez, this is depressing to think about.

The moon on the US map is still hard to makes sense of because one is flat and the other is round.

So if you look at surface area it paints a better picture.

The surface area of the Moon is 38 million km ^2
The surface area of the US is 3.749s milion km ^2

Like I said, those maps don't make sense! The Moon's surface area is 10x that of US.

The Moon's surface area is more (~14 million km^2) more than the entire continent of North America. And slightly less (~5 million km ^2) than the surface area of North and South America.

That is a better way to judge the size of the Moon.
