Total joints like knee and hip are probably the most brutal surgery for someone to watch. Like a Carpenter going to town

Link on the right that had brain surgery was pretty cool as well. Amazing the guy was awake and talking through the whole thing.

Figured So... Only time I've ever been in surgery is when I've been the one getting cut on...
shite I need to pick some of that up for when I hit the Bars around campus

That was crazy.
I'm a little unnerved by the "instructional" knee replacement video on the side pane on youtube.
I would hope anyone performing that procedure wouldn't need to learn it from the internet in a 50 minute video.

swatched this yesterday. pretty awesome
This. I had to FFWD through parts because it was fairly boring, but the process itself, and being able to watch it was pretty awesome (even if a little disgusting ).

185LSU,
Are you a surgeon?

I'm an ortho resident, still have a couple years of fun training left...
Fun times!
I will say that this surgery is probably one of the tougher non-trauma ones to watch as a lay person, the femur and tib just hangin out, the saws, drills...etc.

How much does a Dr. make to do that?

You would actually be surprised....
Patient came to our office asking about the her hospital bill one day and got into the discussion with the staff. Physician reimbursement is not that big of a portion of the overall bill...1500-2000$.
For reference, not really much of a difference in reimbursement for that total knee and a short carpal tunnel release

Reimbursement depends on the patient's insurance.

Sat in on a case with one of the best surgery cardiologist in NOLA to see a tricuspid valve repair. Pretty damn incredible when they bypass blood away from the heart and then later squeeze the heart to get it to beat.

If done under spinal the patient could be wide awake and even talking to the surgeon during his knee being replaced. That's how I'm gonna do it if I ever have it done.

an old roommate of mine did this, one of the coolest, and most anal guys I've ever known, he wanted to see what was going on, and if something waivered from what was discussed in the pre-op briefing, he wanted to have input
