I don't care for the trigger at all on the M&Ps.

my first gun was an m&p. the stock trigger is awful. i didn't realize it until i handled other similar guns. the apex trigger is awesome, but then you are just adding cost to the gun when you can just purchase a ppq or glock instead.

Maybe you'd understand the significance if you were comparing apples to apples.

What brand of 9mm SD ammo have found with a muzzle velocity of 1140 ft.sec for a 115 grain bullet ? (This sounds a lot like cheap range ammo.)

What brand of .40 SD ammo have you found that has a muzzle velocity of 1440 ft/sec. for 135 grain bullets ??

Since I didn't reply directly to your post you know I wasn't referring to you. You also weren't in here knighting for .40 and looking down your nose at 9mm.

That was a Horandy 9 mm self defense jhp round.

Underwood.

I used the same medicine that 9 mm fans use against 40 and 45 folks. I compared a hot 40 round to a standard 9 mm round and the 9 mm was outmatched.

You can get 9mm in 500+ ft lb loads. Just so happens that you picked weaker 9mm as your example

I picked a standard 9 mm round. You know one that is not snappy. It was a good quality Hornady self defense round.

For a 9 mm to get in the 500 lb range you would be shooting a 9 +p+ round. This round would be expensive, snappy, and wears your barrel out quicker.

9 mm is good for target practice and recoil sensitive people.

Many GI's died from 9mm in WW2.

The 9 mm can do nothing that the 40 s&w can't do.
Exactly. So why not shoot the one that affords better chance of shot placement for people who may never have to use it. Wait, wouldn't that be a "nothing that the 40 can't do?" And btw, S&W is not a caliber.

It's okay if you don't like the 9mm but not liking it doesn't mean it's ineffective. In a self-defense situation you're likely to be within 10 yards of the perp so either one'll do.

Throw a 124 grain Speer up in there and call me.

In the context of this debate, we're speaking relatively.

Says who? I would never use that as a self-defense round unless someone attacked me while I was target practicing and that's all I had.

Well if that's a criteria you can't use the .40 at all cause they're more expensive.

Welcome to the OB if you haven't posted here previously. I am the resident M&P fanboy so I'll give you my take here.

If you want the standard size, I would get the M&P40. The reason being, if you purchase a factory 9mm S&W barrel and some 9mm mags, you can run both calibers through the gun 100%. There is no need to change the recoil spring. It will run both calibers.

I have done this with my M&P CORE that is ridiculously fun to shoot. I can run 9mm or 40 anytime I want. Point of aim and point of impact are the same for relative defensive distances. Also, if you are practicing with people that only have 40 ammo, run that. If you have 9mm, run that. It adds versatility to your setup.

If you want a full review of some different M&Ps, check out my YouTube channel. I will say the one knock on the gun is the less-than-stellar trigger. The Apex kit does make it amazingly awesome, but you have to drop some coin for that.
